If John costs an extra $100k than Maniscalco the only thing g that matters to TD is that he’s not worth that $100k. That’s it. If you don’t have a material impact on the bottom line and your job can be done for less, that’s what he’s doing.

I don’t know how right he is in this case with John, but they aren’t going to win the Stanley Cup because John is the play by play guy.

At least we got one more good playoff run w/ John and he got to call a 2nd game 7 OT winner. Would have really sucked big time if he had missed out on last years fun.

I get that there's a possibility that next season doesnt even happen and that no one wants to pay an employee for a service they won't be able to provide. But jeez louise just pay him it is worth the good will. Especially if there is a season but attendance isnt an option you need someone people want to watch on tv

This, 100% this.

I would like to congratulate Tom Dundon on this bold and important step in making Peter Karmanos look like a generous genius with a heart of gold by comparison.

Our stormy moniker is so apt. Couldn't we have just had a return to play hockey honeymoon period and a little pre-playoff blissful excitement - particularly while trapped in Covid h*ll?

I'll still take the guy that allowed us to spend over the cap via LTIR this year, makes us competitive two years in a row for the first time in two decades, and slashes some likely overrated areas over the guy that kept paying those less important positions but wouldn't spend much above the floor for many years.

TD - 90 million in salary, new practice facility, fan experience improvement, and improved team extras spending (meals, etc)

>>>>>>>>

Karmanos - 65 million in salary, no Aho, none of that other stuff, and add Kaiton, Francis, and Forslund.

the Keith R is a waste of comment section space

Tripp was on Adam Gold's show/podcast today. He sounded quite subdued for Tripp. He said he was making his one and only statement re: the negotiations. Basically, there weren't any although he attempted it. Said they would not budge and he wrestled with the decision while being in daily contact with Forslund. Said it was a bitter pill to swallow. He hopes it pays off in the long run by taking the pay cut now. When he spoke about John, it sounded like he was going to cry.

Said he's been working on clips for the upcoming telecasts for Fox and is headed to Raleigh in a couple of days to prep and work with Maniscalo.

TD is serious about all the money going to the on the ice product. He doesn’t care what has to be done to make it happen.

Ooof. Sounds like the organization is F-ing over everybody and only John has the ability to tell them to stick it where the sun doesn’t shine.

If that’s true, why is Rod paid so low? He is as directly responsible for the on ice product as the players.

Now i was truly to guess at TD’s plan:

spend as much as possible to get more fans into the building. I.e get a top notched team on the ice and get the things that bring fans in.

pay as little as possible on everything else

once we get good enough and bring in enough fans, keep moving the ticket prices up.

Find a second owner to help foot the bill

maybe reward those that need to be kept to remain competitive

profit

Maybe they will bring him back for 20-21, but don't want to pay him considering the uncertainty of this season even being completed. Things could be shut down at some point. Waiting gives them more time to play hardball for a contract for next year when it wouldn't be a big loss to them if Forslund is not calling the Canes playoff games now.

I do believe this is possible, and I hope it's the case. But they're sacrificing a lot of goodwill there.
