Odelein was a penalty machine with too few tools in his belt. Of course i like his mean attitude but i wouldn't want a youngster to be that...ummm....not so usefull overall.
Always prefer a skilled player with a mean streak then a mean streak that can skate.
...Lyle Odelein played Top-4 minutes for most of his prime, including a few years where he did so on a very strong team with a heavy defensive focus that also had two HHOF D-Men.
And Lyle Odelein ended up being a very sound player because he was a smarter player than everyone ever gave him credit for, and went from being a 6-7th Bruiser to a Top-4 guy.
Like, if Mailloux ends up as useful as Odelein, it would be a small developpement win. Like, you hope for better, but 31st overall aren't even statistically likely to do so.
