The big swing and miss was Ritchie obviously. He was picked before Larkin, Fiala, and Tuch and it’s fair to be critical of it at this point.

The 2016 and 2017 drafts just weren’t very good league wide honestly. Lack of talent
Ritchie wasn't a big swing back that day.

He was ranked 6th in their consensus ranking. Fiala was #13th, Larking was #17th and Tuch #18th, Pasternak was #20th.

Ritchie was a no-brainer at #10.

I’m saying in hindsight it was a big strikeout. It’s easy to say in hindsight it obviously though

Perry has more fights than Reaves last year lol
Perry has 360 more career goals than Reaves

And that’s not even counting playoffs

They were so excited when he ran a few power plays like he is capable of. Just like I was in Klingberga first games.

Then you realize, he just sucks at every other thing.

Klingberg is not a good hockey player lol.

He really screwed up by not taking the alleged long term deal he was offered before joining the Ducks.

Verbeek admitted that we offered him a multi-year contract, but it was Klingberg and his agent that called back wanting a one-year, $7 mil contract. We lucked out.

If I had to witness even 1 more year of the Swedish giraffe playing "defence", I'd probably lose the will to live.

To be fair, the Swedish Giraffe did improve his play as the season went. All we did was trade two players in D Klingberg and D Kulikov at the TDL, which dropped our play significantly to land the worst record in the league.

I am still glad we no longer have Klingberg b/c all the new personnel on the blue line are better than him at defense. New personnel = Gudas, Lyubushkin, LaCombe, and MIntyukov.

He definitely got "better" as the season went on, but if you pay a guy $7M he needs to play like it all the time.

Best I can say in terms of direct impact (as opposed to other players filling holes) is that we got Nesterenko out of the trade, and that's not saying much yet.

Klingberg served his purpose. Got us over the salary floor. Got us Nesterenko. Helped us land Carlsson. That latter is saying very much as a potential franchise 1C.

Verbeek got lucky that Klingberg didn't accept his multi-year contract. I was frightened when we signed Klingberg b/c he lost two defensive power house d-men and replaced them with an OFD who stopped playing defense. In fact, we didn't replace Lindholm and Manson's talent at all last season.

Verbeek's roster in 2022-23 was a tank job, which was probably due to his bad scouting of pro players and lack of physical balance. The pro player acquisitions are better talented with physical balance. Also helps the youths are much more talented than the 2022-23 group.
