No one has signed Sam Steel. I suspect he gets an AHL contract and becomes an AHL star like Holland and Noesen.
Just not big enough or fast enough for NHL but is perfect for AHL.

I know he didn't exactly leave much of an impression, but according to Rob Rossi on The Athletic, Pateryn's joined as a Western Conf. scout for the Pens.

If he has any smarts, he chooses Europe over the A. Higher quality of living, much shorter travel distances and the salary, at least in Switzerland and Sweden, is easily comparable to that in the A.

I think he could be a star even in some European league. Or at least a good 2nd line center.

Truth be told, I'd absolutely drool over the thought of him lacing it up for my hometown team. I'm sure he'd be a perennial 60+ pts player here in Germany on a somewhat decent team. I'd also say he has much better chances getting another shot at the NHL down the road through good play in Europe rather than in the A. The latter really has become a league to career-wannabes and a testing pool for high-end prospects. Steel is neither, so he should turn to Europe instead.

Teemu and his group were bidding to buy his former club Jokerit now that they are clear of the KHL, but negotiations have fallen through.
I'm not really in a 100% understanding of this whole situation but the issue here seems to be that Teemu's group refused to pay another former Duck, Jari Kurri about a half a million euros for the rights. I'm not sure if this is because of the actual amount that they just didn't want to pay or Kurri's dirty money/dealings with Russian oligarchs.

EDIT:
To add, my understanding is that Teemu's group wants full transparency and none of the baggage from Jokerit's trip to Russian KHL. I think the fact that they'd need to pay a man whose pretty much lost his reputation with the KHL dealings and Russian money might've been a matter of principle to Teemu's group.

Kurri was Teemu's idol growing up and I think they've had good relations in the past. I'm not sure if there's also something on the personal level here now after everything too. Teemu never liked it that his youth team that is very dear to him left the Finnish league to play in Russia instead.

Kurri has really soiled his image. Very sad considering that he's second best Finnish player points wise. Once this Jokerit fiasco is over no one wants to have him involved in anything hockey related.

Meanwhile, Koivu recently played in Liiga Alumni game for charity. He hasn't been seen in media much since his playing career ended. I think he's involved in Finnish team TPS in some way. Still has that classic smirk.

I remember when a lot of people on here were penciling him in the lineup lol

It was the same thing when we signed Antoine Laganiere back in the the day, he wa a perceived by a coi as being the equivalent Of being a first round pick.

Wow this post was a failure lol. That should say perceived by many as being the equivalent of a first round pick.
