I was ready for the Carr and developmental QB drafted in 23 or 24 approach. Let JD keep drafting studs in the 1st round until the team is a legit threat. The entire OL is a giant ? and the defense was overrated. Plus many vets we have are on short/cuttable contracts. I don't want to go all in, give up premium picks, then be back to square one with less talent a year or two from now.

Lmao, the Packers would tell you to f*** off and rightfully so.

They'd hold onto Rodgers just to spite him and the Jets if that was offered.
I hear ya, but guy is like 38 years old, so much chance things go wrong, not even get 2 good yrs outta him

Gotta pay commensurate w/what is received after the fact

What you're offering is basically what you'd trade for a camp body, though. This is a legitimate starting QB. You have leverage, but nowhere near THAT kind of leverage. I can't see the Jets trading a 1st rounder, but at least one 2nd rounder will be moved.

the dynamic in football is dif b'c cap is real but not always as hard, some loopholes, not all salary guaranteed.

So they are playing w/fire but there is less chance of getting burned

But that said:
AR is a head case + bring baggage
if he goes down we're effed.

Now obv any QB incl a younger one can go down too.
But I'd rather a decent++ younger guy w/great improved OL and if he goes down, we have assets not spent in reserve contingency.

Overpaying depletes resources --- am I wrong on that?
And while I hope we get lucky, if we don't, well......

Yeah I think it's going to be a 2nd and a conditional pick but how to figure out the conditions with all the moving parts. For reference favre was the same age when he came to the jets coming of a 13-3 4000 yard 28 TD season and he cost a 3rd.

The rumors have been that the deal will be a second this year and next year.

Howver the two hanguos are.

1. Jets want assurances (ie draft picks) if Rodgers retired after 1 season. As 2 second round picks is then overpayment.
2. Packers want escalator in case Rodgers has a great year. Like the second next year becomes a first if Jets make AFC champtionship.

I think a fair compromise would be
1. Packers get first if Jets make superbowl
2. Jets get a 3rd if Rodgers retires at year end and they dont make AFC championship.

I hope Schoen doesn't cave. There's no chance I'd pay him long term with his injury history.
I think Barkley was probably seeking $14-$15 a year for 3-4 years. I suspect Schoen offered $12.5 a year for 3 years during the bye week. Barkley did not take Schoen's original offer. Now with the RB market the way it is Barkley may be lucky to get $12.5 a year for 2 years.

When Wilson and Lance were drafted I wrote "Neither has started for 2 years at a top 25 program and both have have zero chance of success".

What are the top 25 programs so we can judge all QBs by that standard?
Trey Lance started 17 games at N. Dakota State. Zach Wilson started 28 games at BYU. The top 25 is the top 25. Google is your friend. I've never seen a positive post from you. Why are you so miserable?
