Here
I'd be furious if I were a Jets fan.

My God, haven't you made your fans endure enough?

Any other franchise and its negotiations with Arod, you can see it. With the Jets (similar to the Rangers in some senses) they've been down this road before. I know they need a QB, but they are attracted to the shiny object here while they've made some great draft decisions and have begun to build things the right way.

I havent been watching whats going on closely, why dont they just get Carr?

Sounds like overpayment to me, but I don't know much about the player.
No disrespect but how could you think it sounds like an overpayment (pick #100) for a guy you do not know about? If he is healthy (key) than it is a great move. Its a low risk hopefully good reward trade.

If we get Jeudy on top of Waller and are bringing back Saquon, Jones needs to throw for 4000 and 30 TDs at least, no excuses
That is silly. Few QBs throw for both 4000 yards and 30tds. Jeudy is not even a top 20 WR and we just got Waller for a 3rd round almost a 4th round pick. How about we just let the kid play well and we win playoff games.

Carr didn’t want to come to NY. His numbers in cold games are atrocious. He’s gone to a dome; in a bad division.

Lamar is a huge spend on $ and draft capital. And the Ravens may just match. And he’s certainly not without risk.

There aren’t many choices for the Jets. I don’t like Rodgers at all, personally, but there aren’t tons of options. And one upside is if he comes and it doesn’t work, neither party wants to be locked in long term.

He’s just a complete crybaby who is acting out every grievance he has with the league and reporters now. This is all a massive power move to try and get revenge for the way he feels he’s been treated.

Agreed. The Rodgers trade is also more complex than people realize. If it doesn't happen before the draft, it's not happening.

Just to tag team on how historically bad the Jets are, the only Jet QB to ever throw for 4,000 yards was Namath and he did it in 12 games. The only Jet to ever throw 30 TDs was Ryan Fitzpatrick. Vinny threw 29. Al Dorow threw 26 in 1960.

I don't really care for Aaron Rodgers. I've lost a lot of affection for him in the past few years. With that said, even at 41 he's still probably the best QB the Jets have had in decades.

I hope they don't give up too much. I know some people are taking this as "Oh GB has no leverage!" When it sounds to me like Rodgers either wants to play for NY or retire. If that's the case, GB could always just hold onto him and let him retire, or tell him he'd be the backup and try to force his hand (very unlikely, I know).

Just seems like teams often get into these situations where they're bidding against themselves and end up giving up way more than you'd expect.

If rodgers retires the packers get a $40 million dead cap hit. They desperately need to move him.

I didn't know that. Certainly changes the leverage aspect for me. However I'm still afraid of bidding against ourselves. Like I said, I've seen that go poorly before for my teams.

I think it will be pick 43 this year, and a third that becomes a 2 or a first in 2024, conditions like make the playoffs and or return for second year.

I don’t think the Jets give up pick 13 this year, they need to draft a tackle.

They can agree to redo the contract to complete deal. Maybe that's the holdup?
That’s a big part of it.
The problem is the bonuses are already a thing, so those that were paid out will still get hit no matter what.

These are my thoughts too.

We just went through this for 2 weeks with Kane. Reports were Chicago wanted a 1st and more. End result, conditional picks based on team performance.

The Packers don't want his cap charge on their books. They want to play Love. They want to build a younger roster. They want to move on, those are Rodgers words.

Pick 43 (2nd)
Conditional 3rd in 2024 (Becomes a 2 if the Jets make the playoffs, becomes a 1 if they go to the Superbowl OR if Rodgers plays a 2nd year for the Jets).

Then the play is to move down the draft in the 1st round. Get back another pick. Needs are OT, C, DT, LB, WR (to a lesser extent). The thing is that they have an equalizer now. Rodgers will pre-read the defense, get into the right play. The defense can play free and emphasize the talent already there.

They trade him it’s 30 million. But then 10m next year. Let’s not talk like it’s 40m vs 0

I mean he just won b2b MVPs prior to last season. Just so happens Hackett was his OC in those seasons. Could he have fallen off that much? I don't know.

But if this Jets team can produce like the 2019-2021 GB Offenses, they are a dangerous team. The defense seems to be elite. As always for Jets football, it's the offense holding us back.

Once again, as a Jets fan, I fully expect the worst and something catastrophic to happen.

@romba (couldn't quote you) there is still other cap charges there. That dead cap is no matter what, and of course 40 now or 30 now and 10 later is better for the Packers. I think the remaining cap hit is roughly 19M. That's a good amount for some free agents too.

Rodgers emphatically denied the report that he's requested the NYJ to sign that list of players. It's at 26:50 here where the question and answer start:
