Idk, if I'm a Chiefs fan, i'm doing my best to find out who i can pay off to ensure these refs call the Super Bowl too.

the chiefs shouldnt even accept this win...that was unbelievable. refs didnt give cinci any chance to win that game, never seen anything like it. disgusting to see guys have a game like this taken out of their control. the chiefs running their mouth after that "win" is pathetic. if i were a bengals fan idno how pissed id be. shoulda taken a knee to let cinci have a chance in ot and not started until there was a new officiating crew. to be tied at that point despite those refs deserved more

The NFL quality of play has been wanting for a few years if not longer, but add in this turrible officiating & they're quickly heading toward an NBA level of unwatchable.

that traitorous btch empy has been doing this for years. its disgusting, i wish we could move it.

and yea i think one issues has been now with replay theyre wasting time splitting hairs on rulings that go either way all the time. but this was just obnoxiously one sided reffing which i havent seen too much of. horrendous play calls like the non call on kamara couple years ago, but i cant remember a full game of convenient call after convenient call going for one team with nothing called against them like this one.

I don't like the media playing the 2 black QBs angle. They're individuals and human beings. Also, genetically speaking race doesn't exist.

There were four combos for the Super Bowl and we got the worst/most boring one.

I'm actually looking forward to Valentine's Day...because we'll be in the 48 hour clear of water cooler Grammy/Super Bowl Halftime Show/NFL poser fan talk.

I'm looking forward to superbowl boxes, and making a ginormous mess while I fry up some delicious buffalo wings and fries, while simultaneously handling the burgers and ribs on the grill.

Once my Giants aren't in it, couldn't care too much who is. Though I'll root against the Eagles for rivalry's sake. If it were hockey and a rival were in it I wouldn't be able to bring myself to watch- I'd have to make believe the sport of hockey didn't exist until training camp.

If the Jets trade for the 39 year old Rodgers who's only been to one SB and has $200M left on his contract, the only possible worse combo I can think of is the 46 years old next season Brady and Hackett.

The soft and inconsistent calls are killing the games. Penalties are too detrimental to be called soft and mostly not the same throughout out the game. Everything defensively is a first down. Everything offensively is most likely a punt.

And how does Tolbert not know the play was blown dead? He literally said the clock will roll on my whistle. That whole situation was a train wreck from the refs to the clock management people. Not to mention the 1-2 mins lost of a gameplay with an additional 3 downs.

Rodgers sounds upset that the Packers are already considering moving him. He is used to being in control. I do not think he has a no trade so he does not have much control if he wants that huge money.

His leverage is his supposed willingness to retire. Trade him to a team he doesn’t like and he may threaten to retire and leave the money on the table. He might just be crazy enough….

Just make the return on the deal contingent that he accepts the trade. I do not think he will walk away from the money. I'm not sure how it works out long term for the Jets.

A big part of this is the NFL very actively shifting the focus of officiating towards "results-based" rather than active penalties. And as annoying as it is in regards to affecting the on-field product, in the real world it's hard to take the stance of, "oh well, they're making millions and becoming famous, having their brains scrambled and sustaining lifelong crippling injuries is just the price football players have to pay..."

I'd identify the start of it back during those brutal AFC playoff games when, for example, the Patriots and Steelers' secondaries realized the best way to slow down the high-powered passing offenses of the Colts and others was to basically demolish any WR that dared to come across the middle of the field. So the NFL, as a first-and-foremost entertainment-based business, decided more people wanted to see offense, not defense, and that it was a bad look to regularly have unconscious receivers on nationally televised games. It was the start of trying to avoid the whole, "should we really even play football anymore?? It's so barbaric and unhealthy!" public dialogue.

This then quickly progressed to: "QBs are our moneymakers - no one wants to pay to watch backups suck" mentality. Which resulted in the current near-comical over-protection of QBs.

Combine that with an emphasis on eliminating horse-collar tackles cause guys get hurt too often, then eliminating leading with the helmet, shoulder-to-the-head hits, or just hitting any "defenseless" player because all those cause guys to get hurt too often...

And the result is officiating based on what could possibly happen because of a play vs. what actually happened. Officials are increasingly making calls based on theory vs reality. They are having to make calls based on a meta-understanding of how the league wants the game to be portrayed. Football is undeniably a physical sport - there's a reason the biggest, strongest, and toughest guys are the best at it. But it's increasingly officiated with a, "Let's not have anybody get hurt!" mentality which is just not a natural fit.

Again, it's just something I'm observed/my thoughts, I'm definitely not a fan of watching guys get their brains turned to mush, and I truly have no answer for what the NFL should do (beyond going back to leather helmets and pads!). But the officiating has undeniably become a bit of a joke.

My current least-favorite play is extended QB scrambles where inevitably a ticky-tack defensive holding will be called while at least 2/5 O-linemen are egregiously holding pass rushers leading to an automatic first down.

Yeah, I think everyone who watches football, like every game that is televised, thinks this same way. Usually the defensive holding call has no implication on the play while the offensive holding actually prevents a sack.

I think you just make defensive holding a 10 yard penalty like offensive holding. If it makes a first down, great, if not you have another down. The automatic first down is ridiculous.
