Megna and Blidh were good tonight… but role and development are the reasons. Bowers isn’t a 2nd line sort. At best bottom 6 right now. Doesn’t help the meat of the lineup. OO has a very long ways to go to learn the NA game. He’s best suited to the AHL now.

Way too early in the season to be making moves like that. The Avs are going to coast for a while. We're gonna lose some games. We're gonna have some bad nights when the top line can't get it done.
That's just the way its gonna be. Sakic/CMac are going to play the long game like they always do.
This team can sleep walk until the deadline.
Not sure what you were watching but pretty much everyone was terrible for 40 mins. Then the big names picked it up.
Megna and Blidh we're complete waste of roster spots tonight. Megna had 1 ok rush ending in a blocked shot/turnover. And Blidh had 1 rush where he fired a terrible shot from a bad angle with two guys open in the slot that he somehow didn't see.
If we are giving Kaut a shot, why not at least Bowers somewhere. Blidh and Megna are AHL plugs who offer very little, Bowers is still reasonably young at least who knows maybe it's the boost he needs to get over the hump. If not it's no worst than playing Blidh or Megna.
Except it should have been addressed during the summer.
They had to know 92 was going to be out for long time, and trying to shove Newhook who looked bad in the playoffs into the 2C role was never going to work. He simply isn't close to ready for that. And might never be.
I don't think Sakic/CMac envisioned how bad the team is looking up front.
I know it's early but it's not close up front right now. Outside 4 guys everyone else is complete suck right now.

I'm not sure they expected Landy to need a second surgery, or they would have addressed it. As for Newhook, it's going to take some time for him to gain confidence and figure out his game. I'm not really concerned to be honest.
If we were heading into the playoffs with this roster, I'd be extremely concerned, though.

The Avs are going to be tested for sure until the end of January. They basically lost an entire 2nd line in Landeskog, Kadri, and Burakovsky.
Can't remember who said it but this team feels very much like the 17-18 team where 29/96/8 are going to do all the scoring with some help from 13/62 and the rest just try to survive - much like it was then with 29/96/92/4 doing all the scoring and everyone else hanging on for dear life. F***ing Blake Comeau was our 2RW lmao.

Compher needs to step up. He's a veteran, and needs to pull his weight. He's going to play himself right off the team if he keeps playing like a ghost.
Compher has been fine IMO, and his analytics are very strong.
Speaking of guys with very good analytics... Girard is absolutely dominating from the back end relative to the rest of the Defense. He's both generating offense and preventing chances at a significantly higher rate then the rest of our Dmen.

Boys came out lazy. In the end it was a winnable game but take the point and run.
We are very top-heavy though. Mikko, Mac and Val in the top-5 of the league in scoring. While that's impressive, it won't stay that way forever... Hope the rest step up soon enough.

To be fair... For Mack and Mikko it probably will
and if Val keeps playing like he is, he wont be far behind them.But yes, they need help. Lehky doesn't have the points those 3 have but he's also over a PPG himself and has been very good as well. But they really need ERod, and Newhook in particular to start producing and more importantly to at least start dictating play and controlling the puck more frequently.

Nhl.tv is such a joke product. f***ing morons cropped the entire 3rd period of the game that I now cant watch. And audio of the games is comically bad, you cant hear broadcastors at all.

They are 4th line players… the line is not getting caved in and having some solid shifts. That’s good, and they did their job.
I personally don’t care about the obsession with giving players a chance. Chances are earned. Blidh was the best 4th liner in preseason and earned his chance. Megna is a fringe NHLer who is better than Bowers. Bower has to earn his way past those guys.

Newhook needs to be tried on the wing with one of Mackinnon/Rantanen to see if that works. Otherwise I don’t really know what to do with him right now. I know they’re adamant on him being the answer to the 2C eventually but there has to come a point where they stop forcing that if it isn’t working.
He’s been able to make quick plays in the offensive zone when they already have the puck and are circling the ozone with speed but that’s about all he’s been able to do. I’d honestly try him on the wing with Mackinnon to see if they can generate some chemistry doing exactly that. He hasn’t earned a promotion by any means but he’s just not going to contribute anything if he doesn’t have someone to make plays with in the ozone because he is reliant on others.

Everything everyone was concerned about in the offseason has been bang on so far. Newhook a giant ass flop at 2C. Who saw that coming? This is a one line team even worse than the last time they were a one line team. Not only is ERod shitty hes also insanely ugly. Ill start getting excited when its playoffs or if Avs are a lottery team.

I think they were expecting Landeskog to insulate Kadri walking a bit, but they're screwed now that he's out for half the regular season.
I was fine with Kadri walking but that required them to actually replace him that summer. I hope they're enjoying the luxury of playing Girard on the third pairing while their forward depth gets caved in.
You simply cannot expect to be consistently competitive when the center depth after MacKinnon falls off a cliff. We saw it for years before Kadri, we saw it the postseason Kadri was suspended, then we saw what they could do with proper center depth. It amazes me they still haven't learned that lesson.

Avs did nothing to replace Kadri and Bura. Nothing. This start is to be expected. The Avs look like meat now to the opp. The Avs have been outplayed in every game minus the Chicago game.
