Florida has been one of the better team’s this in terms of shot rates. They are better than their record so far.

Yes, these games are winnable. They are also loseable.
I have no idea what this statement is supposed to mean. The Devils might win or lose to other top teams. OK, yeah, no shit.

There are people in this thread insinuating those games are not winnable, which is outrageous.

Vanecek before the last week was pretty good but yeah this week has done a number on his stats.
He's playing a little closer to his career norms and not so much closer to some kind of a breakout.

I'm confident we'll be fine in net, so long as we keep that guy named below me away or at least as little as possible.

Speaking of the Rangers, I'm surprised they haven't been playing Igor more than they have and that Halak is getting a decent amount of the starts. And you see what Halak has done to them. He was the one who STUNK up the joint against both Anaheim and Chicago. That was Anaheim's only regulation win this year to date and Chicago's only win in their last 12 or 13 games or something? He sucked against Chicago and I gave him the softy of the night in that Anaheim game. I can remember that.
Goaltending has been average. Schmid's been real good analytically, but Vanecek has been mediocre and Blackwood flat out bad.

But fully agree with your main point that we're more than fine if we continue to cave teams in

Make those excuses, calendar flips to December and shit goes south again.

No one's making excuses, team goes on a L4 when they should arguably be on a W3 and you're all losing your collective shit. I'm sure there were tamer responses to us looking like garbage versus the Islanders last Friday in the PGT than what's happening right now.

right we should all be so happy we’re losing games we should win, what a blessing. This loss was bullshit and so was the rags loss and people should be pissed.

So to the guys who are OK with the great play and the loss, do you get upset when they play bad and win?
If they play bad and win for more than a game at a time, yeah that does bother me because that's not sustainable.

I recall feeling that way for a large amount of games in the 2009-10 season when the team had a ridiculous first half record. That team proceeded to have a .500 record for the second half and barely put up a fight against Philly losing in 5 games in the first round.

I can literally count on one hand how many games I feel like the Devils played worse than their opponent so far this season.

???? I said this loss was bullshit but it's so weird for sports fans not understanding that other teams have GOOD players too. Carter Hart has had an insane junior pedigree + Flyers play an insanely goalie friendly system where they block shots to where goalies don't face super high quality chances nightly.

What's funny is all these recent losses have been close games...by 1 goal minus empty netters. Even while not playing their best, they are barely losing.

It's pretty obvious that these reactions are a combination of PTSD from previous failed seasons coupled with unrealistic expectations as a result of the winning streak and the fact that the L's have come against division rivals.

And also people are apparently not familiar with a league where bad teams win more than 1% of their games against better teams.

Does it really matter if we don't win the division?

Don't get me wrong, I don't wanna be in a situation where we're out of town scoreboard watching every night like we were for the last 2 months of the 17-18 season with Florida and people getting paranoid about every time Florida got a point and everytime we didn't get two points, but we still have 5 more points right now than we did that year after 30 games. However, we did go on a 5 game winning streak from games 31-36 and it was a 6 game point streak from games 31-37, but after that we won at under .500 for a little more than two months.,

Yup, now that I look at it. We were 22-9-6 and then 12-17-2 after that stretch before finishing the final month 10-3-1 and actually 10-2-1 before clinching. We lost the season finale and it was a throwaway as we were already clinched. Pretty sure we even healthy scratched a couple guys.

And this team is way better than that one.

We arguably should've lost the second Flyers game this year in Philly and won this game, sports are weird. If sports get you this angry then step away from the keyboard, lol.

You've got to be trolling. Holtz was literally drafted 7OA for his finishing. He has 28 goals in 55 AHL games and Fabian has shown plenty of finishing ability.

Nobody in the league can score at will, not even McDavid. No one can save you from being goalied. The team has shown that it has plenty of finishing ability.
That's funny, was going to say the same about the Holtz comment. So being drafted 7OA and whatever he does in the AHL makes Holtz an NHL finisher? Can he? Maybe.

Does that make Bratt not an NHL finisher because of his draft position? Now he's an actual NHL finisher, and you're right about streaks, he's gone cold recently, but has been hot.

Where's Holtz's hot to go with his cold? I love the guy but he is here to finish and he's not doing it. Again, not giving up on him, but also don't think we can count on him.

This is the problem with all your finishers that this team has, none of them is actually finishing outside of Hughes, Nico and Bratt for a nice stretch.

I would say those are the 3. Anyone else is yet to be determined.

This is a playoff team and that's where I think they need to add

It absolutely doesn't matter and the obsession with it is part of the collective meltdown on here. We're 9 points ahead of the last Wild Card spot, 7 of the first with a game in hand.

Who cares if we win the division? We're the youngest team in the league and we're turning the corner. Being in the playoffs is the goal.

They have the 2nd most W's in the league.
We still retain second place in the conference tonight with the Rangers regulation win over Toronto.

We're still one point behind Vegas for second overall in the league, but we now have a game in hand.

Not that any team in the west matters to us, but it's just perspective here.

Carolina wins their next game and the division lead is 2 points
Who cares about the frigging division? I mean really now. The goal this year is just making the playoffs number one, and number two winning the division gets you bupkus when the playoffs start anyway. If we win the division, get the #2 seed and get bounced by the Islanders in the first round what the f*** would winning the division then mean?
