I’ll state openly, I don’t give a shit about the kid. He probably is an entitled douche nozzle.

What I care about is the extremely likelihood that the organization played a role in this whole ordeal.

I am a strong proponent of athletes using the rights available to them and standing up for themselves so I say good for Cutter here and I wish more players would do it.
Which arm of the org stated anything about Hayes?

Which "arm" of the organisation claimed Kevin Hayes was the reason?

The hypocricy in your statement is beyond. "I can't believe you fell hook, line and sinker" while you are literally doing the exact same thing on behalf of the kid, who quite frankly from his last interview sounds like a f***ing asshole.

Where are the reps stating that they were in communication? I thought his side were silent?

You have 2 players that have stated that he wouldn't meet them. You have a coach that admitted that he spoke on behalf of him. You have the GM of the organisation stating something which quite frankly hurts his own reputation.

Considering it's the flyers that have lost out here massively, I'm tending to lean into them telling the truth.
Here are some more exact quotes from the article:

We think that this is just a private matter and needs to stay private,” said Gauthier’s advisers, who requested anonymity. “We understand why people are upset, and people are allowed to be upset and make their own judgment.

“But, on the other hand, along the same lines, when a college player is drafted by an NHL team, there’s no entitlement by that team, nor is there a requirement by the player to have to sign there. Like, as you know, as recently as Adam Fox with Calgary and Carolina.

“It’s been interesting how the Flyers brass has handled it. We just want it handled with integrity, and we know people will be upset with Cutter for his whole career. But as you know, in pro sports, you can’t please everybody.”
There is a good relationship with Flyers brass, according to Gauthier’s advisers, and there was a meeting between the sides in December when the team was in Colorado and recently in Sweden. The advisers also confirmed that there was “absolutely” no involvement from former Flyer Kevin Hayes regarding Gauthier’s decision.
“And under the CBA, players have the ability to make some choices in their career, and they are people that are allowed to change their minds. And I know it upsets some people, which is totally understandable, but the way the system works, it’s not like anyone is cheating the system here. It’s just part of the process.”

The advisers added there is “not a rearview mirror here” and that “it’s just time to go forward.”

“From our perspective, speaking for everyone, there’s nothing but respect for the Flyers and the organization and the city,” they said. “So whether or not people want to believe that, that’s up to them, but there’s nothing but respect for that.

“... We’re grateful that the Flyers took the opportunity to leverage the situation and get a great asset and the assets that they received, and we’re happy that they were able to do that. And one of our intentions all along was to keep this private and give them the opportunity — without the media finding out — to have a chance to move Cutter as an asset to get good assets.

“So I know they’ve mentioned that they wanted to keep it quiet to protect the kid, and we wanted to keep it quiet to protect the integrity of the trade process. ... So, you know, there’s two sides to that story, but those are the facts. And we have a very good relationship with management. There’s no animus from our perspective, whatsoever. So we’re just moving forward, and we hope over time that the Flyers will too.”

So Torts was instrumental in vetting an undersized defenseman, evidently endorsed his acquisition, and is now publicly giving him a long leash to play a supposedly anti-Torts style of hockey. Great times.
All lies.

Snow The Goalie.

They are “officially partnered” with the Flyers which is how they manage to get someone like Hilferty immediately on with them.
Fair. Looks like the are partnered with the FBN, which is an offshoot of the Flyers.

I'm not sure how much control they have over it, I've never listened to it. I can't stand that fat f*** ASF.

For what it's worth I was at the Blue Jackets game last week and there was at least one ad on the jumbotron about the podcast. I don't remember the exact wording but I think it was pretty heavily implied it's "organization approved".

Bingo. The kid didn't want to play here for whatever reason - doesn't like the city, doesn't like the coach, contract stuff, doesn't see the vision, was told he's gonna play LW and thinks he can play C -- the reason doesn't matter. He doesn't want to he here.

The Flyers acknowledged that he told them at some point by saying "changing his mind again", and at that point, he doesn't owe them monthly check ins that he does or doesn't want to sign with them. He made his decision, and it was final. He did the right thing afterwards by keeping quiet instead of further hindering the Flyers trade position.

You can say he's a baby for changing his mind, but again, the keganization changes their minds about things all the time. How many times have they given a player a NTC ans asked them to waive it...or traded them before it became valid? Noone seems to care when the organizarion uses the bylaws to their benefit l, but a kid does it and he's an entitled brat. It makes no sense.

If we received a first back and Drysdale for Gauthier and a second - I genuinely would feel a lot better about this whole fiasco.

I just hate the loss of value

These guys just miss the point. I dont doubt that members of the front office told ASF that there is a feeling Hayes is involved. Guys like ASF and Marcus take that as permission to to spin it however they want and their integrity cant be questioned bc they had a "source".

Problem is both guys, ASF with K. Hayes and Marcus with AJ Brown, took the "feelings" of a source and turned it into red meat for the sports radio crowd and presented it as fact. They knew exactly what they were doing bc they both made a career out of it. Problem is neither have grasped that in 2024, they cant control the narrative anymore bc people can easilly push back.

ASF didnt say "some in the flyers suspect hayes is involved"...he said "ive talked to people in the flyers org...kevin hayes finger prints are all over this". "Are". As in definitive. That was then followed by his attack dog ranting and raving about Hayes like a lunitic. This was done for the clicks and there was collateral damage that couldve been avoided...thats the issue.

If ASF said that night what he said yesterday I don’t think it’s as big of deal. But he said “this has Kevin Hayes fingerprints all over it” with little to no further explanation then they (admittedly Joy & Therien but he didn’t step in to put cold water on it) proceeded to bash Hayes after it.

Homie actually said out loud that he has “the clutch gene.”

You don’t shoot every puck above the circles on entries, with teammates open, without being enamored of your own skillset. Calling himself a physical, 200ft player who loves to set up teammates was also a hoot. Most guys say this shit to some degree, but he never struck me as someone who honestly appraised his own game because nothing really changed with his approach. (I'm allowed to say this because I also said it before he was traded.)
I definitely got distracted by his jaw line a few times but I rolled me eyes at some of those quotes. Fletcher ate that shit up I guess.

Scores one PP goal from the ladies tees in the semis and he has the clutch gene lmao. Did he play in the Gold Medal Game?

They got the Flyers to acknowledge Ed Snider’s birthday after six years of not being mad about it so who is to say what’s good or bad

They got ripped yesterday on the one TSN radio clip I heard. Granted I don’t think the three man panel even knew who they were (I assume they would know Therien even if they didn’t know he was on it doing it) but essentially said they sounded like fans & not media members. They ripped Hilferty for going on it too given his position & what was going.

Yeah I heard that one.

The Flyers are built to be villains. They love being the bad guys.

Oiler fan coming in peace( as much as one can)

Nice to see do many flyers fans taken this on stride. For those who are not? Take a moment to think about how many players have refused trades to Edmonton, demanded trades out of Edmonton and draft picks who refused to sign with the team? We deal with it nearly every year.

We are in a new era in the the nhl where it will not just be certain Canadian teams dealing with this problem. There has been a shift where players want more control of where they go.

With this guy, there is some speculation he does not the mental fortitude to with stand playing in cities where there is above average hockey intense fans.

Oilers and flyers shared a player named Joni Pitikanen. I remember several flyers fans swung by the oiler board and suggested he was a bit of a head case. Sure enough, several games Joni went to the team saying he could not play. He could not with stand the pressure from Edmonton fans and media. The thrived in Carolina and reportedly loved it there. There was very little pressure on him.

Maybe Cutter is the same way. Like most I am just going off the fans and media speculation. We do not know the full story here and it will be interesting to see how things go.

Joni Pitkanen almost got his ass beat in practice by The Fridge if I remember correctly. He got bullied for not playing bully hockey. Philly is definitely a tough town but if Cutter is that afraid of Philly sounds like he has the flight gene and not the fight "clutch" gene. Maybe he will thrive in a less toxic hockey town like Pitkanen did in Carolina but I guess we'll see how clutch he really is.

They partnered back in earlyish October and in the reveal tweet STG said "officially partnered with the @NHLFlyers" so right, wrong, or indifferent they do have a bit of responsibility with that now being a thing.

The optics of ASF putting Hayes' name out there followed with Russ and Therien BLASTING Hayes and then shortly after the Chairman of the team goes on there just doesn't sit right with me. If Hilferty didn't jump on there it wouldn't be as big of a deal to me but he was and there's no higher up person in the Flyers' organization than him so i'd prefer my Chairman to distance himself from that a little bit.

There's also been a noticeable tone shift from the crew from the times i've listened and others have said the same thing since Jones was hired. That's a bit too coincidental for my taste with that hiring and them getting a partnership.

------

Wrapping back to our conversations on the Gauthier stuff, I'll fully admit that i'm possibly to probably too cynical when it comes to this team and organization but it's only because they've given me/us little to nothing to the positive side in basically a decade plus. Any time that they've seemingly put one step forward they either immediately take one step back or two steps back due to their own incompetency or modus operandi so I just can't give them the benefit of the doubt.

While I didn't view the player in the franchise saving light that the organization seemingly did tied with Michkov. I'm bummed that the player is no longer here. I'll readily admit that i'm biased towards American players so the idea of having a potential American star on the team was exciting to me. Yes, he could have handled himself better over some of the things that have been thrown out there if they turn out to be true but I really don't think he had any obligation to do so as not signing was well within his rights.

With that said, the majority of people saw what Briere said and take his timeline as 95+% fact because that's all they've seen. It's readily out there all over the place. That Inquirer article I only happened to find by chance and I don't really see it talked about anywhere else so it's seemingly going by the wayside. We'll maybe find out one day what actually happened if Gauthier turns into a superstar and he has autobiographies written about him but i'm not holding my breath.

I don't know how this Drysdale thing will work (perfectly, like all the org does, I'm certain) but I know I'm glad I don't have to worry about this.

I've been saying "he sure shoots from the moon, but maybe he does that because it works and he will adjust when he needs to." Now I'd be thinking "he sure shoots from the moon, and he is certain that's best." Not what I'd consider an adaptable mindset, but it isn't our problem now.

Flyers fans after team drafted Gauthier: Morons! Dinosaurs! They drafted him because of size! When this old school ends? We need modern undersized players with skating!

Flyers fans after team got modern undersized player with skating: What are you f'''' doing???

Rock in the avatar, rocks in the skull.

I was interested so I went back and Lyon isn't mentioned in this post? I've become baffled and don't know what's being discussed/debated/warred about anymore.

Either all you people are having strokes or I am having a stroke, what is going on
Because I didn't mention Alex Lyon. In speculating causes in a long post (the now infamous #1,526), I opined that the Flyers were under no obligation to sign and burn Year 1 of an ELC starting in the spring of his D+1 year. I said something along the lines of "teams don't typically waste ELC years." Someone cherry-picked out that particular portion of the post (don't do that, people) and retorted that Hextall signed Alex Lyon in the spring to a 2-year ELC, essentially "wasting" Year 1 of that deal (so there!). Then other users chimed in on a mistake I made, where I said Lyon wasn't signed to an ELC when he was. I followed up with an admission of that mistake, some mental midget told me I should "take the L already," which is fair because when users like that start responding to you, you've already taken the L. I don't think I can get into it anymore than that without putting my account access in peril.

Not as fulfilling as you thought, right? Not for me, either. Alex Lyon isn't Cutter Gauthier to an NHL front office and their management of player contracts and the cap. It's a red herring. In other words, just another day on HF Boards.
