You're satisfied with the Flyers talent infusion in the last 10 years?

No, but thats mainly because there draft position has been trash and decisions by Gms and Front Office. In regards to the last 10 years...they had some success drafting:

TK
Provorov
Sanheim
Hart
Foerster
Brink
Farabee
York
Michkov

The amateur scouts don't get the final say, and also they are simply guys sitting in a rink in some random spot in canada, sweden, russia, finland etc...

I would have put Cutter on the spot - sign in March 2024, or play at BC again.

He would have been here.
BC's season could go into April. The Flyers last game is 4/16.

Hopefully, because i'm spiteful, Cutter never learns to position himself below the circles for shots. If he doesn't, he's not going to be much of an NHL goal scorer anyway.

The shot location maps of great NHL goal scorers were just broken down recent by I want to say @VladDrag but I could be wrong. He has a great shot but he's simply not going to score anywhere near the rate he has been scoring from in NCAA unless he finds himself closer to the net.

No, it‘s truly just hilarious that the people who are so gung-ho to not rush anything and let Gauthier get maximal time at BC & away from the Flyers are now acting like signing him last spring would have been met with anything other than criticism and ridicule. I don’t need your permission to laugh — it’s just straight up funny.

This isn't the smoking gun you think it is. We thought the Flyers would rush into signing him to accelerate their rebuild, so we were happy it was a single stroke of patience. Of course no one here is talking to Gauthier or his agent; we assumed returning was a mutual decision, not a deal breaker because this never happens. A lot of similar caliber prospects play 2 years in college. I don't take back a single word that returning for his sophomore year wasn't the best decision for his development (instead of possible AHL time; he was not NHL ready), all things being equal. But all things were clearly not equal, with yesterday's news.

So the Flyers being idiots cost him 1 year of an ELC. His rage against the team and push to go back to college cost him a 2nd year, potentially?

Yeah. I posted something about OV earlier. But you can do it for almost any consistent 40 goal scorer. You have to be able to get to high danger areas at the right time to score goals. And that takes a lot of IQ and skill. This is my main hangup with Gauthier, that most of his goals come from the top of the circle. He doesn't score a ton from in front of the net.

That was some great work!

Yes, exactly. You didn’t have the context. And yet, had they signed Gauthier last spring, you would have been content in your rage all the same, thinking that it confirmed all your priors about shortchanging the rebuild. And you would have never known the full circumstances of that signing. Thats why so much of the incandescent, blinding rage on here is grating. Everything is viewed through whatever lens confirms those priors.

Even taking Gauthier out of the equation. I don’t even blame them for not taking into account a player would be slighted by not offering a contract there as that is a little odd of a complaint but whatever.

The issue I have with that report if true is they let cap space dictate their hand when this supposed to be a rebuild. What other moves are going to be dictated by cap space going forward if that one was & the team has overachieved this year?

I remember looking at elite shooters' shot charts and coming away with Laine being the best comparison to how Gauthier manufactures his shooting right now. People are delusional to think Matthews (an all-time great scorer right now) or Pastrnak or whoever aren't shooting a ton around the net. Pretty much no elite shooter subsists on shots above the circles as their primary mode of offense.......besides Laine. And it's one of the reasons he is not an elite scorer with an 80 grade shot.

Well, blinding rage isn't exactly my style. But thank you for these words of wisdom. I'd be lost without them.

It should be a foregone conclusion that the guy you take at #5 is someone you want on your team in the future. You generally figure out how to make that work - trade players at a lesser value than you need to that you dont care about (ahem, JVR), so bonuses arent a challenge.

Flyers management - unsurprisingly - screwed the pooch here again. Whether people would have or wouldnt have bitched really doesnt matter -- what matters is that they just lost a high-value asset because of their own mismanagement.

The Hindenburg explosion was not the optimal outcome either.
Honestly, the Hindenburg wasn’t really that bad. It looked pretty damn spectacular:

hey guys, i’m not a ducks/philly fan but an avid fantasy player, and this guy is nasty. he’s been a super sleeper and have won me big money in daily fantasy. he came back from injury recently.

likes to shoot and pass. even though the ducks have a lot of young D talent, he took over the pp1 spot due to his play and never looked back. he is not afraid of blocking shots. reliable, doesn’t take penalties. can play big minutes but with so many vet D on ducks, he played 20-22min average but has played 25. capable of more. played mostly offensive minutes, fowler and Gudas were the penelty killers. but he’s definitely all around D. he’s also fast.

with the flyers talent D York, Sanheim and Zamula all being great puck moving options, flyers have one of the most potent defence core in the league.

i expect the flyers to make the playoffs and surprise some people.

bummed out about their result yesterday but i believe they will bounce back. deadly top 6 stack that produces almost every night
