If you think nobody would have complained that, as their first act of business, Jones and Briere rushed to sign their top prospect ASAP to get him to the NHL, while incurring cap overages, all just for Gauthier to play during the first year of a supposed rebuild, then I have a bridge to sell you.

Farabee wasn't signed in the weeks after the team declared to be rebuilding. That is the difference in outrage.
What do you mean by cap overages? Do you think they wouldn't have been able to manage the cap if they signed CG last year? People would have understood that signing him would have been about making him happy by burning an ELC year. People here aren't stupid, they understand how things work around the league.
You're making this (alleged) promise out to be made by the corporate entity of the Flyers rather than any actual human being. That is where things fall apart.
How do you think CG views it from his perspective? Does he work for Fletcher or Briere or does he work for the Flyers? The Flyers the team drafted him, the Flyers told him they would sign him. Do you think he cares about the semantics of a leadership change? Obviously he took up issue with it by the way he disrespected them after he felt they disrespected him.

Listen you when you have an option to sign a high draft pick but it gets in the way of you potentially signing prized free agents like Garrett Hathaway & Ryan Phoeling you just have to do what you have to do there. It’s understandable.

If you’re Briere you almost rather the narrative to be he didn’t want to play for Tortorella. Granted that’s still not a great look for the organization but at least for you individually it maintained your perception of some competency here.

If this all happened because JVR wasn't traded last deadline, Fletcher may be the most destructive force that's happened to the Flyers since...okay I can't finish that joke out of bad taste, but GOD D*MNIT

Worst GM in league history. Milbury sucked but a lot of his suckage was because he had zero money to work with.

Fletcher is as bad or worse with ample resources in both stops. He had nothing restraining him or forcing his hand like Milbury did, and everyone knew. The only reason he didn't burn out of the league completely in Minnesota is due to different buyout rules and some of his dad's friends bailing him out with pity trades.

All to please Clarke.

What major changes do you propose...Is this still all about Clarke, Holmgren, Dean Lombardi?

I'm just generally curious what folks who are ripping the org to shreds want to do. From a fan perspective just going to games its been a much better experience, i've generally been entertained at games.

They do dumb shit, everyone does dumb shit but its easy to continue throwing more shit at shit, but what new shit are we coming up with as a way to crawl out of the shit abyss?

Gutting the scouting (amateur, and pro departments) - not promotions like we saw this off season.

Pro development staff, Hanrahan. Advisors that yes include Lombardi.

This is a country club that constantly fails to perform, but they sure love their alumni nights.

Tortorella was most right about one thing. When he said something like “is being a former Flyer a disease?”

It is at this point, but for all my wailing. I know it’s not happening. Far too many would take a bullet if someone spat on their childhood heroes, and those alumni would thrash Comcast. We saw the leaks with Camillo was around.

Talked to somebody I know in college hockey that is well connected. He said Torts has nothing to do with it from what he heard. He says it boils down to money. CG wanted an ELC right after he was drafted, but accepted the organizations position that he should go to college for one year. He apparently told teams in pre-draft interviews he would play one year of college hockey if they preferred, but no more, so he was okay with the initial decision. After that, this past spring, he wanted an ELC again. Obviously, he didn't get one, and now he blames the Flyers for costing him two years and millions of dollars in career earnings, as he'll now hit UFA at 27 instead of at 25.

Wild.
Also read this in other places, and it seems a completely straightforward reason for the situation. Much more believable than the Blame it all on Torts approach. More just blame it on the Flyers braintrust plus Gauthier advisors for not figuring out a compromise solution on the contract.

Oh well...we'll see Gauthier play significant time in the NHL this year, very likely next year. Seems like a good player to me. I bet the Flyers would have preferred to keep him and work out a way to allow him to play "soon", but we'll likely never know.

This thread has become a dumpster fire but i will say that i find it amusing that some of you are portraying this as a franchise-destroying moment when Gauthier, simultaneously, is not supposedly THAT great of a prospect. I mean, he should be good and the talent level is obvious but he clearly has some flaws in his game that may prove to be fatal at the pro level. The reaction here to this situation i think would be more justified if someone like Michkov does the same thing in a year or 2. At that point, all the outrage directed at Jones and Briere will be 100% justified. Until then... yeah sorry i'm firmly on Team "Cutter is an entitled little shit, f*** him".

Everyone currently tied to management in any way has to be fired.

@Hollywood Cannon GKJ is correct as usual about these things. It's in articles from draft day.
Today is just one of those days that's going to live with me forever. I'm Alonso'ing all day but with a smile on my face.

You think that they can't get any lower but they find a way. It's a talent. #Levels that anyone can be proud of.

What does Amateur Scouting have to do with this?

Combo of rookie stooge GM who thinks he's a moneyballer, dinosaur asshole coach, and just a little bit of Fletcher's residual idiocy. This is chef's kiss stuff.

Take a bow, Comcast Spectacor. You're the best company on earth.
Listen, all this stuff is pretty bad, but have you seen the beautiful blue IBX logo on the throwback burnt orange jerseys?!?

I posted this in a GDT the other day but after going to the game yesterday i'll post it again...

Take note of the broadcast how many people in the stands are wearing the new blouses. There's very few, if any. That's a sign of something.

I think there would have been hefty criticisms for incurring any overages when the team is rebuilding, as that cap space a) could be used to weaponize in trades and b) should never have been wasted on signing Gauthier ASAP just for him to play in Year 1 of a rebuild, especially when it'd help his development to go back to college for another year.

Just go back in the summer and look at the Michkov thread: The general consensus is that the Flyers should in no way be rushing to waste his ELC years, even though Michkov has far, far more urgency and priority to get here ASAP than Gauthier did. Wasting an ELC year just to get Gauthier under Tortorella's wing ASAP would be deemed malfeasance.

I've said from the start that, from Gauthier's perspective, I understand why he is angry. And I understand why, from Danny's perspective, he is not beholden to his predecessor's promises.

both can still be true..he can be an entitled primadonna and the Flyers org can be a dysfunctional clown show that looks bad with the "Then we don't want you"
