If this clown didn't want to sign here because of a coach, then good riddance. Torts has what? 1 season after this one left before he gets canned. Kid sounds like an entitled loser.

I can't believe people are mad at Briere pulling the trigger on a trade for a player that literally doesn't want to sign here. I see this place is still absolute doom and gloom on all aspects. The longer you wait, the longer that the rumours have time to break out, which then destroys your leverage. The 2.5 years gives other teams an insurance against a player that might not want to sign with them either.

I hope Drysdale can get healthy, If he does, then this is a good trade.
that is legit not why people are mad...all of the people that "yell" at those of us that complain about stuff are totally missing the point as to why we complain

Cutter is not as good as some people think, I’ve watched tons of Gauthier including the WJC, he lacks hockey IQ big time, he seems to be confused and unable to make the right play when he has the puck on his stick, also he has a massive ego which will get checked in the NHL. His lack of IQ makes him expendable imo, his release is great but I just don’t see “it” with him, 2nd line fringe 1st line winger as his absolute peak imo. We have tons of those guys, let’s move on to Drysdale and relax man, Cutter isn’t in the same tier as like Michkov lol, if we traded Michkov I’d delete my account and forget hockey.

Sorry, should have clarified. Many people are mad at

The return for Cutter
The timing of the trade
The player that was targeted
Torts

Did I miss anything?

I think both can be true at the same time, Torts being an issue AND Gauthier wanting to play on a diff team for other reasons. Next year Boston will be a diff team from this years all-star lineup and that's why I believe Cutter wants to make the jump to the NHL asap. The Flyers on the other hand have too many fwds blocking his path to an automatic top-6 slot. With Torts he also faces a real risk of sitting games or getting the AHL treatment. For a 19-20 yo the next two seasons are crucial in their development, and the way he's only going to amass 30+ games over any NCAA season, I'm sure he's looking for more game time action in a big role. Something the Flyers as an org couldn't promise him. No matter if Torts is gone in two seasons or so, next year and the year after are what made his mind up IMO.

Now, despite all the reasoning above Gauthier is still a f****ng baby primadonna for not even meeting up with Briere and hearing them out or wanting a secured fast track to a top 6 role in the NHL. He can go play entitled rich kid with Zegras for all I care. Here's hoping Drysdale can stay healthy. If he proves to be a top pairing dman the Flyers got more out of their whiny NCAA baby than the Flames and Canes combined for Fox. Even if not, I'm still pessimistic about their chances of actually driving Cutter's price up at any later stage before his rights expire.

The Flyers wanted a change of culture. They've successfully installed a regime that turns away young players off the ice while preaching a doomed, unsustainable system on the ice. Once again some people don't realize the problem that everyone is complaining about isn't Cutter, Giroux, Ghost, Hayes, DeAngelo, Deslaurieurs, Provorov.... it's that ~this~ is exactly the culture that management wants. This is what they strived for the whole time. All the "we don't care who you are" and "be a f***ing Flyer"... it's all a dogwhistle for ~this~. They're happy. That's the problem. They're serendipitously eating rotten sushi for lunch because they think it's delicious while everyone looks on wondering what the f*** is wrong with them.

They’re already negotiating with 18-20 NHL teams who know that Gauthier isn’t signing. It’s not a secret among the trade partners! It didn’t get leaked to the media, but so what if it did? It gets superficially uglier, but the Flyers have leverage with 2.5 years of control for a player impatiently wanting to turn pro. It doesn’t lower his value because it’s not new information for other teams. Jones claimed Gauthier’s value would never be higher than after the WJC, but there’s no reason that’s true. If it went beyond the draft, possibly. But we’re supposed to believe this team understands timing a sell?

I think it’s less that Keith Jones thinks we’re idiots and more that he’s the idiot. Everything he said sounds like he read it from a PoHO pamphlet. What do you expect from a TV color commentator…..the business acumen of Morey? He’s probably patting himself and the team on the back for other GMs showing them “respect.”
Whoever we trade him to also gives them 2.5 years in the weird case he doesn't sign there either. Which gives them time to work out a plan. I assume they have already talked to him about signing though on that front.

Cutter just put up a dominating performance on the world junior stage, we managed to get a top prospect and a 2nd back for a guy that realistically could have left for nothing. He's also a prospect that we quite frankly sorely need in this team. I can't see many teams throwing us offers for a problem child that are along those levels.

I don't really get the calls of "we didn't get the best value". We don't have the leverage here. Every team that we deal with can literally wait us out. The whole "bidding war" is never going to work out on unsigned prospects that have made it clear they aren't signing with us.

We're desperate for Centres, that much is obvious. But I'm going to make the bold assumption that Walker and Seeler are now going to be packaged for a 1st somewhere. We have our own first this year and Florida's 1st too.

I would imagine that Tippet/Laughton/Atkinson are all going to be floated right now. We have chances to aquire some talent. I'm a bit lost in the whole doom and gloom that this place is protruding at the moment

Should have probably got more back...

I guess in some future Drysdale can become a 1D... he has the physical skill-set (fantastic skater) for it and was good on the PP two years ago.

But he was rushed into the NHL waaaay too soon and right now is not a good NHL player, even if getting 20+ minutes. Plus all the injuries...

Odds are for me he ends up a ~#2-3.

But I mean, WTF, comical to follow this franchise.

From 2020

Two-way defensemen who can anchor a power play and push the puck up the ice are often in high demand, and Jamie Drysdale, who was No. 3 on the Central Scouting list of top North American skaters, fits the bill.
He tallied 47 points (nine goals and 38 assists) in 49 games for Erie of the OHL, and 22 of those points came on the power play.
Drysdale also pointed to Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks and Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche as players he models his game after on the ice.
"I think the things that stand out with them are skating and just how they think the game, how they have confidence with the puck," Drysdale said, per Morreale. "So I think those are three things that I try and use as much as I can in my game, and I think three things that will lead to success at the next level."
Central Scouting agreed with the Makar evaluation, highlighting his playmaking ability in transition and positioning on the offensive blue line to keep the puck in the zone and prevent scoring opportunities on the other end.
Makar wasted little time impressing in his NHL career with 50 points (12 goals and 38 assists) as a rookie in 57 games before the season was suspended.
He and Drysdale could mirror each other for years to come as talented defensive playmakers with bright futures.
Torts will show him how he needs to play! Over with the show on ice. We need work on ice! It will be beautiful to see! Dont even mentioning his injury concerns. This trade will be ensure we need to rebuild in 2 or 3 years! So maybe it was a good trade in the long run

I think when I say this and everyone would agree with me, your posts are on the top 1% of the website with intelligence and just pure hockey knowledge. But honestly idk if this is as bad as a lot of people think. I like watching junior hockey and I love watching our prospects. Cutter really, really and I mean really lacks hockey IQ. If anyone thinks Gauthier was the premiere performer on that US team during the WJC you’re insane, he looked like a passenger idk, he has a great shot, but he was never gonna be the top line guy we’re hoping he’d be. The trade sucks, it’s weird how he just didn’t wanna play here; but the trade is fine. I realistically do not see him more than a fringe first liner, something in the mold of Farabee, but Bee doesn’t have an ego and is a 200 foot player, you win cups with those guys in your lineup. Correct me if I’m wrong Appleyard you know I mean no disrespect, I respect the hell out of you.

They did a good job keeping things under wraps. Had this been leaked, Cutter would come off as a trouble maker and his value would have dropped. Not sure they could have held on for much longer.

I know Drysdale has the pedigree. Sounds like he has a good floor at this point as a 2-3 D. If he can rebound from injuries and progress to a 1D then we won the trade so that has to be the hope.

I thought Cutter would slow down with production but he seems to be the type to win and produce when it’s needed. I think he will be good at the NHL level but around a 25-30 goal scorer with short lifespan. I have a feeling he’s going to cause more issues in his career.

As far as the injury goes a torn labrum is bad news. It’s unlikely to heal without surgery if bad enough but he did already have surgery and rehab.

I think his biggest obstacle to being a top pair may be development stuff and making the right choice quickly more than injury. I think you can teach him that. Not sure that’s to be expected here though.

Man, is so hard to be Flyers fan...

You know, we said during the WJC that we don't like Gauthier at C at all. But fu*k him, it's over.

Until Gauthier will not say WHY he didn't want to play for Philly, fu*k off. It doesn't mean that Philadelphia is also not terrible organization since like ~2015. It is.

Welcome to Philadelphia, Jamie Drysdale!

I miss the days of a couple A holes on here telling us Tort's is great . Said he was fine being drafted by the Flyers at the time but changed his mind a little later . LOL guess who was hired . The media etc will try to spin something else and even Cutter's team will but it's Tort's is wish I didn't know from a hole in the ground .

A lot of peoppe still seemingly think this is an issue with losing Gauthier(most people werent fond of the pick anyway), and they couldnt be further from the mark. It's about terrible process, and not realizing that constantly playing players like Deslauriers over giving kids ice time (cant have a kid on the 4th line!) And all these other dumb dinosaur tropes are driving them away from the new generation of players.

You can cater your audience to these bully watchers all you want, but this is the flip side of that. You have situations like this where kids with a limited career span have to maximize their earning potential (10-15 years) in a situation where they are already heavily restricted/capped on earnings for about a third of that. Keep your goons if you want, but its limiting roster space, which is limiting opportunities, especially in an organizarion who already has publicly admitted to playing vets for milestones over kids for development..
