The Flyers are a clown show. It’s about time people start to realize and acknowledge this.

The arrogance that they’re somehow above these other franchises is a major reason why they’re so incompetent.
There is probably a difference though between a team that is trying to move cities every 5 years that is budget strapped and a team owned by Comcast.

They spend significantly more money than Arizona to be a clown show too!
Which is why I still believe they are a better destination than Arizona!

Briere now admits he lied about developmental camp. It’s not like I’m blaming him for it. He did what he had to do. Manipulating PR is part of his job.

Totally. I am on board with my GM being a liar if it has the goal of protecting players and assets. What is the old saying about talking to reporters...treat them like mushrooms: feed them s*** and keep them in the dark.

Honestly, it's a great motto to live by if you're a front office for a team with behind the scenes battles like Jonesy and Briere have.

They kept quiet the bad part: Gauthier doesn't wanna play here (and they did it for months with no major leaks).
The loudly shouted the best part: We hate Gauthier, he was totally unprofessional, and we don't want him as a part of this organization if he's going to be that arrogant.

All-in-all, solid PR job by the team for the circumstance.

Doesn't exactly sound hush-hush. The league knew they were shopping him. The Flyers didn't pull some value fast one getting this done immediately over the weekend.

This would kinda seem to indicate that a lot of scouting groups share our concerns about Gauthier's lack of playdriving and orbital strikes translating to the NHL.

Even with recent strong production.

Or, the Flyers sincerely believe this was the best offer.

I was hoping that Gauthier would get traded for an equivalent player in a position of need, so this kind of fits.
Trying to rack my brain of young defenders who could have been suitable 1-for-1 trades for Gauthier that may have been available and coming up pretty blank. Drysdale seems like the only name that may have really fit.

he's going to be playing tough minutes here ..you do know that right lol
Of course. But there's a big difference between being expected to play second pairing minutes at 18 and 19 with no/minimal experience vs at 21 with a season and a half worth of games under your belt. He's been relatively good so far this season for the Ducks, albeit in limited time.

John Tortorella: Be a f*cking Flyer
Cutter Gauthier: Ehhhh, I’d rather not

Torts is a great coach, he's been proving it again and again. the Flyers play way above their abilities this season. Look at Ottawa, it's >>> Phily roster wise, and where are Senators and where are Flyers?

If a player doesn't wanna play under a great coach you gotta trade such a player 150 times out of 100 no matter the reputation that coach has. I assure you Michkov will be Torts' favorite player because the kid is a warrior and absolutely crazy about hockey, like Tortorella.

Maybe, but I’m not sure what other kind of deal structure would have worked. Given circumstances, a 1-for-1 trade for a young D seems like the only one that would have returned a prospect of relatively similar value/pedigree, and I’m not sure what other young D with high impact potential may have been available. There aren’t that many.

I don't remember. It was a long time ago now.

Scoop: Surprise, surprise. Farabee is one of the biggest surprises to hit the board this season. Sources say Farabee’s camp has voiced their displeasure to the Flyers as to how this season has unfolded under coach John Tortorella. Things came to a boil when Farabee skated just 3:52 in Calgary earlier this week. Farabee is a talented kid but has struggled this season after undergoing artificial disk replacement late in the summer, which limited his training. That prompted Tortorella to say he wasn’t going to “let Farabee hide behind that,” which didn’t help. He’s also played on the fourth line. The Flyers don’t want to trade Farabee at his lowest value. There is no formal trade request made from Farabee’s camp, but they’re seeking answers on a solution, especially since it’s clear that Tortorella isn’t going anywhere.

I don't think the people Briere needs to believe he's an honest broker - other NHL front offices or players (including his own) - would hold it against Briere if he wasn't being truthful about what was essentially a matter between the player and the organization. I think if, after trading him, he wasn't being truthful about Gauthier not returning their calls and refusing to meet with them that would be different, no? If that's what you mean, then that's my view of it.

Gauthier must be thrilled to be part of a club that has some talented offensive centres who can do the puck-handling and let him stand at the dot for one-timers.

If a player I’ve been telling everyone will be a cornerstone of a cup contender doesn’t want to play for a coach that has had issues with numerous other players (including another one of our top prospects Frost), I’d probably take a major step back and take a long hard look at if that guy is the right coach in 2024 for this team given where it’s at.

There’s a lot of assumptions being made in that statement, but coaches are a dime a f***ing dozen.

It takes a lot to acquire a 5th overall pick type talent. I choose the talent over the coach 100 times out of 100.

I read it as there being an awful lot of room for interpretation that allows everyone to save face. If for example, it was the rumored burning a year of the ELC issue, technically communication could have been cut off at that point without specifically telling them that’s why. But everyone knows when it went south. Then he did stop returning their calls, but it’s also not a surprise.

Basically, l only trust in everyone to spin it to their benefit. As they should.
