Just when I thought this organization couldn't get any more amateur hour, they invite the coach and CEO of Spectacor on the broadcast to trash a college kid who didn't want to sign with the team. It really is theatre.
Clearly lacking..

I don’t actually believe the Flyers don’t know why Gauthier didn’t want to sign.

It’s in their best interest to publicly take a stance they don’t know & just discredit him through back channels within the media.
The problem with that take is then Briere is risking being exposed as a total liar if they did talk to Gauthier. Although they're reporting he wouldn't talk to them, I assume he can talk and would surely seek to set the record straight now that he's been traded. I know I would if I were accused of doing something I didn't do, because Gauthier comes across as pretty childish based on Briere's story.

I would consider consulting Occam on this one. Selling hard on this idea.

I’ve taken up for Briere and Jones numerous times, and I’m willing to see what we have in Drysdale before making a final judgement, but if you view this as anything but a drastic failure in Flyers leadership, you’re a hopeless Flyers homer.

You can be mad at Cutter and call him immature, but he wanted to play here. Wanted to burn the year off the ELC and start his career and we told him no. And that was the start of the breakdown.

I’m interested to see what the reason for this is from Cutter. It’s unlikely Torts is here that long to make a move like this. I don’t buy it.

The organization is a dumpster fire. I mean it doesn’t have to be Torts directly but there’s plenty of other glaring issues around them that if I was in his position I’d be strongly considering the same move.

Anyone know who Gauthier is represented by? I’m generally pro-player when it comes to exercising your rights to explore options. It’s a business for them too. What is baffling is that there would have been no communication between agent and team. That’s the whole point of an agent. So the player doesn’t have to do the dirty work.

It’s also odd that the team wouldn’t have an open line of communication with the agent just as a matter of professional relationships. Which is why I don’t buy everything Briere is selling here.

Still think highly of Gauthier as a prospect. Intrigued by Drysdale. Not sure how much better Briere could have done by holding out longer (when it would have 100% become an open secret).

Curious to hear what people think would have been a good player to target for Gauthier? Meant to bring that question up when everyone was debating about it last week. We weren’t going to get a similar caliber forward prospect for him, so given that the universe of 1-for-1 trades here was probably limited to young defenders, not sure who else would have been an option. Other trade options would have been older players, packages of inferior assets, and/or 1st round pick this year (but almost certainly not better than 5th overall).

Can’t think of a precedent for a trade like this one. Closest I can come up with was Kyle Turris for David Rundblad + 2nd, but Turris was the one with a few years of experience in that deal.

I just can't get worked up with players acting in their own best interest, mostly. The Flyers shouldn't make themselves such a hostile destination. And they have done that! That's their culture. That's what theyve actively pursued since Hextall was GM. Clarke's comments when Tortorella was hired were delight over how he'll torture players. They treat former players like shit now. That "Flyers Family" culture is dead. Players don't want to come here. It's not just a Cutter thing. Krug just saved them from themselves. Farabee wanted out. It's rumored Frost wants out. TK has been malcontent at times.

That's the things we have heard about. Who knows what we haven't. The Flyers have made themselves a bad destination and I struggle to blame the kid for wanting no part of it. I blame the Flyers for wrecking themselves and arrogantly insisting they're right, despite things never working out for them.
Krug likely didn’t want to come here because he’s 32 years old and didn’t want to enter a team on a rebuild year.

As far as everything else, what do you mean farabee wanted out? He signed a 6 year extension and is consistently at events in the Philly area and stays here for majority of his summers. Where has there been any indication he wants out of the city? Like unless I am missing something I haven’t seen it. Even frost with the shitty handling of his situation has been nothing but a pro and positive about everything and the locker room seems to have great chemistry. I just don’t see where you guys are getting the idea that half the players on our team want out and hate playing here?? I know people in the city who own places the guys go into and every indication shows they love living in the city and playing here. Just my two cents.

No player in the world should ~want~ to play for the Flyers. They have a jackass coach and a braindead management team. They're among the most dysfunctional franchise in North American sports for crying out loud

When was he looking to sign? The quote I saw said last summer. It didn’t make sense. When could he burn a year if he signed over the summer?

There is definitely an alternate reality where there is a meltdown happening in 6 months because this leaked and the Flyers let it drag out all summer.

Also really goes to show that our leaky front office is selectively so.

Just imagine how Chuck Fletcher would've handled this.

No matter how upset Flyers fan want to be at Briere/Jones, just remember that Chuck Fletcher f***ed up the JVR deadline negotiations so badly that he didn't even trade him. Said "there was no market" for a 20 goal scorer at the deadline.

It can get much, much worse than Drysdale and a 2nd.

It was leaked that Farabee was done with Tortorella. Hockey players work hard to wear a positive face and be good soldiers because the sports culture scourges anything else. That we know Frost went to call Tortorella out is a massive red flag.

Provorov just wanted out despite being absolutely spoiled.
