When you consider how well this organization has done at valuation, scorn would be heaped on whatever methodology they revealed to be its source: tea leaves, an app, scouting reports, doesn't matter. When one also sees the end results coupled with what appears to be intense levels of laziness, it becomes very likely that the methodology they reveal is their sole source of consultation.

So no, no one has inherent issues with an app. They have issues with whatever management's current, and likely sole, source of value definition is.

And that's why "the app" line is going to get mocked viciously here. For at least four days.

My suspicion is Fletcher used it as a "black box" model.
It's like JFresh's little tables, interesting, informative but no more, certainly not something that ends the discussion.
You should be using all available information, analytics, scouts and league scuttlebutt.
Every player has a range of values, depending on the team looking at him.

One thing that makes Howie so good on draft night (as long as he sticks with BPA) is he's really good at anticipating what other GMs will do, same in free agency. That comes from doing your homework.

Stop giving Fletcher benefit of the doubt. He hasn't earned it. You don't need to justify and defend everything.

The fact he is using an App explains why he is getting bent over on every trade. His starting asking price is probably fair market value and the other GM's are just beating him down.

If you have a car you want to sell and KBB says the FMV is $20k you add several grand to the listing price so you have room to negotiate. Conversely if you have a car that holds no value to you (JVR) you take what you can get even if it's significantly lower than FMV.

The biggest problem with the app comment isn't the app existing. Using analytics to show player performance and their capable roles and what not is all important.

The problem is he said it told him the value JVR had. That's the bullshit.

Value is market. The market always changes. What teams are in contention and not in contention. What players are on the sellers are on the block vs not on the block. *WHEN* you attempt to sell... All those things change the value. If the app is saying "I spit out that player X is worth blah blah pick(s)" and that's what he uses it's dumb.

Think about that old leaked Dallas Cowboy draft pick value chart. That chart isn't 'gospel' many realized each draft is different and greatly increases or decreases the value of picks in that draft.

These 'assets' are expiring contracts. At the end of the day that's what matters the most that you actually GET SOMETHING and he failed spectacularly at that. Putting your hat on a "Well. I wasn't gonna get ripped off cuz this app told me JVR is worth X" is just so ridiculous.

Getting ripped off in deadline trades has been a Flyers tradition since Keith Allen retired. CIP-March, 2002. Flyers acquired Adam Oates to fill in for injured centers Keith Primeau and Jeremy Roeneck. Gave up a top goalie prospect in Maxine Ouelette and a 1,2 and 3 round draft picks to get him. Then let him walk after a first round loss in the POs.😜

They knew Ouellette was cooked and Niittymaki was the top goalie prospect. Was also a famously hideous draft.

That's true.
It is not who are the good and bad posters per se. We are posting to justify why we are Flyers fans now and still. We accuse others and demand what we cannot have, a good hockey team.

I look at the roster, as pathetic as it is, I will still watch at 6pm

Fletcher has the MBA mindset.

Worked with these guys, but didn't understand them until I went to the Sloan school website and downloaded a bunch of class outlines and reading lists.

MBAs get fed a smattering of everything, so they read about different approaches, 2 articles at a time, but never go in depth - so they sound really good in sound bytes b/c they know just enough to be dangerous. So they'll talk about "crossing the chasm" and "synergies" and other buzz words but never take the time to read 15-20 articles on a subject, including critiques of the articles they read for their classes, so they don't really understand the concepts and their limitations. But they talk real purty in meetings and give nice bullet points in Powerpoint.

And that's what Fletcher sounds like, "we use analytics" but you know he hasn't read up on the strengths and limitations of analytics and their limited predictive value. He talks about culture, but probably couldn't point you to a study that says culture actually has an impact on winning. And so on, he's got the cliches down pat, but seems to lack any sense of a deeper understanding of the game and strategy. Because he talks to "hockey guys" and they engage in group think and that convinces them they're right b/c they're all in agreement.
MBAs are trash. There's a reason why they are so tied to a "top 10 business school".

Are you now walking away from the whole Fletcher is smart because he's an MBA from Harvard? I'll let you in on a little secret.. universities are some of the biggest scams in this country.

College/University can be great but I think only STEM degrees are of actual value for how expensive it is now.
