Fletcher has the MBA mindset.
Worked with these guys, but didn't understand them until I went to the Sloan school website and downloaded a bunch of class outlines and reading lists.
MBAs get fed a smattering of everything, so they read about different approaches, 2 articles at a time, but never go in depth - so they sound really good in sound bytes b/c they know just enough to be dangerous. So they'll talk about "crossing the chasm" and "synergies" and other buzz words but never take the time to read 15-20 articles on a subject, including critiques of the articles they read for their classes, so they don't really understand the concepts and their limitations. But they talk real purty in meetings and give nice bullet points in Powerpoint.
And that's what Fletcher sounds like, "we use analytics" but you know he hasn't read up on the strengths and limitations of analytics and their limited predictive value. He talks about culture, but probably couldn't point you to a study that says culture actually has an impact on winning. And so on, he's got the cliches down pat, but seems to lack any sense of a deeper understanding of the game and strategy. Because he talks to "hockey guys" and they engage in group think and that convinces them they're right b/c they're all in agreement.
