Honestly the slash was to the most heavily padded area, right on the thigh. If you are going to " slash" someone that is the place for it.

He slashed him on the glove, which removed the glove, and then went back for a second right on the exposed hand.

It's really the sort of stick foul that should merit review and a lengthy suspension. If he hits him clean on the exposed hand, it's broken and our best player is out for an extended period of time.

Yeah, cause getting a tough guy to punch the back of Simmonds helmet a few times in a "fight" is really going to stop him from slashing McD.

Oh hey, that's not fair, dont you know that it's because of their toughness that Bruins haven't had anyone taking cheap shots at their players all season?

I don't think the Rangers owned anything in this game. Hank was Hank, McD was McD and our 4th line was great, that was the difference. I think the Flyers created more and better chances than we did and they're a dangerous team, we just have their number. Or, more like Hank has their number.

Don't think what Simmonds did is suspendable worthy. First slash caught McD on the glove--knocked it off--second one on the thigh. The so called punch wasn't much. Doing all that at the end of a game that was for all intents over was ******** but....I guess we could say Simmonds is a poor loser.

Anyway good thing that Ryan doesn't take the padding out of his gloves like Mario. If he were Mario then the league might look at this seriously. Hartnell I didn't have much of an issue with. It's annoying **** but completely within character. It's all hockey.

Game went back and forth a bit. The Rangers kept the Flyers to the outside for the majority of the game but the Flyers are a VERY good team at getting the puck to the front of the net with traffic and creating havoc. It's extremely hard to stop them from doing that for an entire game, but I think overall the Rangers did a good job defensively. The Flyers had some spurts but overall were kept to the outside.

On the other hand, the Flyers did a real good job protecting the front of their net as well and just had some breakdowns turn into goals against (which is fine by me!). Their D and goaltending isn't all that great but Berube has got them playing a pretty good clog the front of the net style defense that helps out Mason a lot

And Lundqvist made soem great saves but that's what you expect him to do here

4th line was the difference... Defensively we are damn good along with Henrik.

Just gonna need more from the top 9.

Yeah, I felt out top 9 wasn't great. That said, I have never seen a Rangers team that was this deep in my life, O and D. Hell I even think our back goalie is the best we've had.

And he did it with 3 seconds left in the game. With Stepan and Nash on the ice. Who's supposed to answer that? It's a ******* move.

Just in case you missed it while worrying about toughness, we won 3-1.

A lot of people get their panties in a bunch when you mention the T word around here. :shakehead

I guess I saw the same game because I did see that they won 3-1. They played their game for the majority of the night and when they play their game this team is tough to beat. But like I've said before, I think the games will be different in the playoffs. You'll see a lot more of the stuff you saw at the end of the game.

I have yet to see any close-up video that shows McDonagh's shot in the net, lol. I am sure it did go in or else it would have been reviewed into oblivion, but I sure would love to see a slow-mo overhead shot or something.

Yeah, not really. Players like Simmonds and Hartnell aren't going to change just because someone fights them. The belief that a fighter is some kind of a deterrent to cheap shots is a myth. Maybe it was true back in the 70s and 80s, but this isn't the same NHL anymore. Do you honestly think a player of Simmonds size is worried about repercussions, no matter who is on the ice? Which player in the league do you think is going to intimidate him? Please, I'd really like to know.

Seem to recall Brandon Prust effing him up. Simmons is tall but relatively light. I think John Moore would be an excellent match for him.

Great, so down shorthanded and with 4 guys on the ice that SHOULDN'T be fighting in THAT situation, WHO do you want to drop the gloves? Also, which two Rangers on the ice would you like to fight two guys at once, considering the Flyers had 6 guys on the ice. So pick two of Nash, Stepan, McD, or Girardi for that task. Lets hear it! Unless you want Hank to fight, is that what you want to see? If one of the Rangers who shouldn't be fighting breaks a hand would it be worth it to you?

How should the Rangers have responded with 3 seconds left in a game against a team they could very well play in the playoffs?

Starting to feel like Mike Babcock did the Rangers a favor when he decided to use Nash on the pk. Maybe playing good defensive hockey will help Nash be more intense at the other end in the playoffs, if we get there.

Check out our post game thread Akanon posted a gif of two angles of the goal. It was a good goal, a fantastic one at that.

I fought this really hard recently but I have a hard time fighting it anymore. Anyone think McDonagh can become Lidstrom-lite. Not Lidstrom because comparing anyone to him at this point is ridiculous, but a similar player? I mean OEL had that in his rookie season.

i must have been watching a different game.

i thought the rangers were faster, forechecked better (that 4th line!), had better chances, and the difference of our D to theirs was significantly obvious, not to mention the difference between the pipes. And of course, the although Hank made some very good saves, we didn't need to rely on him.

Even the first period, when the Flyers outshot us, they were throwing the puck from all angles, and I did not feel outplayed in any way.

All in all, I came away from this game impressed with our ability to handle the Flyers, our likely first round match up. If MSL can get off the schnide ....

Hank and McDonagh were great, and the 4th line was the best line by far. PP was lousy again and I felt the Nash-Stepan-MSL line was pinned in their own zone far too often. The 4th line has been our most consistent line this season but the big name players need to start contributing more if this team wants to make some noise in the playoffs.

I was at the Garden and there wasn't much energy or atmosphere considering it was a huge rivalry game late in the season. Really a shame what MSG has become.

Not really. The refs would be in to stop it. Thing is you can't let this crap go on. Once you put a bully on his arse he will stop with the garbage.

If you believe Hartnell or Simmonds will change their ways if you hit them, you don't understand how the process works in hockey.

Some of you seem to think that because the Rangers have looked better than the Flyers that this makes it a foregone conclusion come the playoffs. It doesn't work that way.

I have to give Hank most the credit for this one. He made some amazing saves in the first to keep us in it. We scored first and it was a different game. Some of the saves he made were unreal. Elite goaltender saves. Reminiscent of 2011/12 where he was the reason for the win. I give Hank **** when he has a bad game, so gotta give him credit when he has a great one.
Next up would be the 4th line and Mac & G

I am impressed with Diaz, even thinking he should keep that spot when Moore is healthy. Certainly makes Stralman expendable if he want more then 3 x 4.

If I was on the ice for that Simmonds garbage, I wouldn't have fought him. I would have cross checked him in the mouth and then not fought him when he tried to drop the gloves. Hartnell is a pest, but I wouldn't consider him to be a guy who plays dirty with the intent to injure. Neal and Simmonds are guys who try to hurt other players. Not even the vilified Sean Avery went out of his way to hurt people.

The Flyers have better forwards. The Rangers have the better D and goaltender. The Rangers should win that potential playoff series. 6 or 7 games. Mason played well against the Rangers until last night. He has a good record against them. Mason doesn't have much playoff experience. 2009 against the Wings.

Historically, Girardi and McDonagh have handled Giroux pretty well. It's the dreaded 3rd pairing I'm concerned about.

Thank you! That's the image I was looking for.
