Definitely not average at best, that is idiot to say. He's around a .920 SV% for 3 of his first 5 years in the NHL after being rushed in at the age of 19. This is behind perhaps a top 3 worst defense during that same timeframe. He is definitely a guaranteed #1 and likely not even in his prime yet, at the age of 24.

Philly probably needs to add a protected 1st to get this done though since Provorov isn't a top pairing dman.
Hart is a mid level goalie at best. All stats point to this . Can he improve? Yes. Will he ? Probably not. He is firmly a mid level # 1 . Probably around 12 to 16

Philly says no to the best RW in the game for Provorov and Hart ? LOL

Easy pass from Toronto, Provorov is a 2nd pairing D, Hart is an average starter.

Not according to stats that matter

Hart has been awesome but I would imagine Marner is off the table except in a deal that brings in an equally impactful young defenceman.

Even then - he's a homegrown kid, he backchecks, and he's entertaining as hell. I imagine he will be a Leaf for life.

Campbell was the Venzia leader at this point last year as well to... How did that turn out?

20 games is a pretty tiny sample size

How else should his trade value be evaluated? By last year's play rather than his current play?

Listen, I think both teams say no. TO probably should take the deal since it'll help them more, IMO. But Marner is the best player by a lot. This deal just doesn't help Philly moving forward the way Hart + the saved cap space probably can.

I think anyone who has spent a significant amount of time watching Hart play goalie (and the Flyers not play defense) knows pretty well who he is. Goalies are mercurial, but on a half-decent team his floor is kinda "above average starter" and his ceiling is "will be top 3 in the league for a few years at some point in his career." He's fundamentally rock solid. Not crazy athletic, just reads plays unbelievably well. Real-deal NHL starter at a young age, and one who has had to truly earn most of his wins in the league to date.

He honestly doesn't have to get much "better." He just needs to be playing on a real NHL team with real NHL players, coaches, and training staff.

Goalies don't have much trade value, though. Really good ones who are his age? Who knows.

I'd be very happy to have Hart and Provy on the Leafs but not a chance I trade Marner for them. Marner produces big numbers no matter who he plays with and is a top 5 penalty killer league wide. You never trade a 90+ point top tier penalty killer for two solid but not great pieces.

This makes Toronto much worse as a team. They are a top 10 defensive team even now missing 3 top 4 dmen from opening night, but in the wrong side of teams for offense. Outside of their big 4 they don't have much and Matthews hasn't been scoring like himself this year so far.

Leafs need Marner more than either of those players. Leafs in my opinion should be adding a top 6 winger as priority #1 this season and a 2nd pairing dman as the runner up

If I’m Philly I’d ask for Kallgren instead.

Younger goalie with much more room to grow. I personally think he’s been a victim of Toronto’s awful defense/Keefe’s system. He’ll do much better under Torts.

Just kidding. Everything I just said was bullshit.

He’s the worst goalie I think I’ve seen play in the NHL in the last couple years. Worse than Jon Gillies.
Kallgren looked decent last game until the giveaway blunder. Isles didn't generate many grade a scoring chances, but he still seemed capable. Only one game sample size for me though.

I wouldn't say that the Leafs are worse after the trade. They address two weaknesses and increase cap space. Hart is a top 10 goalie on a real team (philly is not).

I'm just going to set aside value here for a sec: look at the Flyers' roster. Now remove Hart and Provorov.

Do you see something that the addition of Mitch Marner turns into a Cup contender?

Marner would be solid gold rims on a '71 Pinto.

Not to derail the OP, this could be intriguing for some leafs fans. Girard for Nylander. Maybe minor parts added to both sides?

Him being a star is not debatable, though. He's the back to back first team All-Star at right wing.
Ok I’ll concede that point, perhaps he’s good at being on All-Star Teams or winning Teams in All Star Games. His status as a “winner,” however, has been greatly exaggerated.

Listen, listen. Don’t knock the solid gold rims or the Pinto. Both are classics in their own right. Sounds like Macklemore would drive that.
