What about Read? He's part of the numbers problem. He's off the books at the end of the season so maybe you're considering him cut or traded?
Don't care for Weise a little bit. How he hoodwinked Hexy into that four year deal still amazes me. I'd rather keep Leier than either Read or Weise.

I am considering Read as either the 14th forward, waived, or traded. I cant see them waiving Leier.

Weise is just fine, don't know why people jump all over him, he's got size, skates well, is a better passer than I expected and does the "dirty" work in the corners and in front of the net. He's not a great offensive player, neither is Raffl, both are paid commiserate with their skills, 20-30 point two way players, both who require skilled linemates to be productive. They're role players, not stars.

Got it. Another team would probably take Read if the Flyers put some money in with him. Personally, I wouldn't do that. Put him on waivers to go to LV where he can be an injury call up. If a club claims him, then he's theirs. No great loss.
Leier/Laughton/Lehtera look to have what it takes to be a decent checking line. Unlike last season, the fourth line might even be able to score once in a while.

God I hope filppula isn't on that top unit today or I might legit start to worry Lindblom will get sent down.

Better players than Leier have gone unclaimed on waivers. He doesn't have the draft pedigree of players that usually get claimed either. Weal cleared last year. I think Leier would clear if they chose to cut him.

I like his speed on the PK(It will give us more SH goal chances). I hope he makes the team.

I'm sure this has been addressed multiple times but I will ask again out of protest of these new forums. When is the last date for roster cuts?

Raffl definitely worked hard and looks better than last season.
Weise also looks like he's skating faster.
Both are solid depth players.
Leier has also looked better, too bad he's a shrimp. 2" and 20 lbs and he'd be a top 9 lock.
Read looks like it's time to consider a career change.
Lehtera looks like a guy who was a salary dump, not awful, just not close to living up to his contract.

Obvious its Raffl. I venture to say he's even more physical along the boards than Weise.

Weise has a better scoring touch FWIW.

Easily. Raffl has had some injury problems but he is a good steady player and has upside beyond Weise. Raffl has looked very very good this preseason.

Both would make my final 14 though.
I agree with this, and I probably take Raffl over Weise but it would be a difficult choice. I would expect both to be on the roster opening night, though perhaps not both in the starting lineup.

It really depends on their role. In a 4th line possession/defensive role, I would definitely take Raffl. If it's a 3rd line scoring role, I think I would go Weise but ideally would want neither in that role.

Hey guys, first post. Was wondering if any of you have concerns like me that a top line of G-Coots-V is inadequate. Two pass first guys in G and V and they're passing it to an offensively inept Couturier?

Is this going to be something real or is Hakstol just experimenting for the preseason?
