I am pretty sure we have more losses at home than we do on the road.


Still doesn't change the fact that finishing fourth gives you the best chance.

You should definitely bet a lot of money on that if you think those 3 wins in 20 years are actually predictive.

Also, unless you reach the ECF/WCF, you pick 28th in the draft if you win the president's trophy, not 30th.

I'd take that pick, and a statistically much greater chance of winning the Stanley Cup, over trying to pin-point what seed has seen the most success over a sample of 20 data points.

Do you think that you're smart enough to come up with a more accurate way?

I'll give you a hint... maybe compare the chances of a 1st place team winning the cup with the chances of each of the 31 other positions... and tell me which one of all the 32 finishing positions that you'd rather have the Jets finish in

I am definitely not smart enough to know what you are getting at other than you are not jaded like me but I will state my position clearly for those who care:
Winning the President's trophy doe not mean anything to me; I would rather them win the cup. I am grateful to the hockey gods that the Jets are having a wonderfully successful regular season but I am not sure this will translate into a Stanley cup win or even winning a round in the playoffs. I hope it does because the only reason I follow the NHL is because the Jets are in it. I barely missed it after Jets 1.0 moved to Arizona.

I also think it must be noted that only 8 PT winners since 1986 have won the cup meaning there is no need to bust your chops to win the PT.

It is hilarious how you only cherry pick the posts where I raise legitimate concerns about the team mostly for discussion purposes (perhaps sometimes to illicit these well thought out personal attacks' ). During the 11 game win streak I was the first to say I am on the bandwagon or jet plane. It is also hysterical that you are calling me an idiot because I said the 'reward ' for the PT is the 30th pick in the first round not 25–28 should they win the division. My point is the Jets are likely not focusing on winning the PT because the ultimate prize is the Stanley Cup.

President's Trophy is a sick accomplishment, but this year it feels like it means something in terms of our chances in the playoffs. If it's the difference between Minnesota/Colorado and Calgary/Vancouver that's a really big advantage to have for us.

Home ice has arguably been a playoff disadvantage for us, so that doesn't matter to me. But getting WC2 is a plus this season.

Last year it would have meant Preds instead of Colorado...

Winning the President's trophy is not the number one goal obviously but to say the Jets have a better chance to win the Cup if we don't finish 1st overall is hilarious. I guarantee you every single team in the league would want 1st overall because it's home ice advantage throughout the playoffs . Does that guarantee success ? absolutely not but it sure as hell is a bit of a advantage. Since we are saying only 8 1st place teams have won the Cup do you know how many 8th place teams have won a Cup ? 1 , a grand total of 1 whole team.

If you don't get the PresTroph the StanCup is more like a tarnished Grey Cup. Pretty sure that's how it's been perceived since the start of time.
