Don't know why everyone is talking about the Brind'Amour comment, When people think of sweeps they think of teams getting destroyed and showing that they shouldn't even be there. The Canes are obviously not that.

They got sweeped but they didn't get "sweeped"
No, I think of a series where one team didn't win a game. Usually 4-0 depending on the sport.

The word you and Rod are searching for is "blowout"

With an over-capacity crowd of 20,065 last night, I'd like to once again thank all of our northern friends who were so incredibly concerned about the Panthers being able to sell out the building while restricting ticket sales to Toronto landlords for 24 hours in the second round. It's thanks to your concern and generous advice that the Panthers have been able to sell out the building. :thumbu:

Not sure if this is the thread for this, but I watched the game-winning goal play by Tkachuk, and Aho just backed off and allowed Tkachuk to walk in and score.

I realize Aho is not on the ice for his defensive prowess, but that was pathetic, even by Barzal standards.

I look at players like Toews, Kopitar, Barkov, Bergy, etc and there's a ton of players who are offensively gifted who make a significant effort defensively, and Aho is clearly not one of them. My player Barzal is probably the worst in the league in terms of defensive effort, partially due to his lack of intelligence, but Aho really botched that.

The question I had in my mind was what was he even doing out there on a PK? I know the Canes were missing some people but he is probably the LAST Canes player I would want out on the ice in a PK situation.

I thought Aho was very disappointing in this series, and he literally was losing it when they were down 0-2 last night.

How does anyone not cheer for FLA now... They are showing true playoff hockey... I like watching VGK play but I am enjoying watching FLA play and they are such an exciting team to watch wow
They are such a feel good story. The second Montour scored the game tying goal in game 7 I was instantly on the Panthers bandwagon (since my team had already been bounced). Aside from when the isles are in the playoffs and were making their runs a few years back, I haven’t really been this invested in a team’s playoff run since the 2018 Caps because I wanted Ovechkin to finally get his cup.

The road the Panthers had to take to get here has been incredible too. A team that was down and out in March, made the playoffs with just days left in the season by going on an incredible run as well as getting help by Pittsburgh shitting the bed. THEN Beating the recording setting #1 OA team in the league in dramatic fashion, next crushing the #4 OA team, followed by sweeping the #2 OA team. They will have to (more than likely) cap it off by defeating the #5 OA team.

The Panthers have largely been an afterthought and many times the butt end of the joke for many years of their existence. Their fans deserve this run

That is some inspiring shit. Like Disney movie stuff, but better lol

With the Panthers in the Finals, the Heat on the verge of the NBA Finals, it’s a good time to be in Miami.

Just need the Marlins to catch fire and the Dolphins reach the Super Bowl and we got ourselves a south beach party!

Really hoping some of this Florida success rubs off on the Dolphins. Made the playoffs last year, and almost upset Buffalo with their back up.

First Tampa. now South Florida, really good for the state and will hopefully add even more hockey fans in the coming years.

The Dolphins I can root easily because I grew up during the Dan Marino years, boy did he deserve a Super Bowl ring.

As a Marlins fan since the first opening day, here's what the Marlins catching fire in the post-Dombrowski era looks like:

just posted in the other thread about Aho.

he's gotta be disappointed. missed several big opportunities on bob and yes, he's gotta step in there and help out his D. Bennett had tied up the guy in front. there's nobody else to help out, pal! it's you or Chucky is 1v1 against your goalie. That was mystifying.

Carolina is definitely a team that needs to run it back next season, Brind'Amour included. They were absolutely in every game in the Florida series and looked really good in the first two rounds of these playoffs. Their obvious shortcoming was the lack of finishing ability due to some key absences (Svechnikov + Pacioretty), which everyone knew about heading into the playoffs. Maybe more could have been done at the trade deadline to bolster their scoring ability, but that's water under the bridge at this point.

Run it back, get Svechnikov and Pacioretty back in the lineup and hope for better health next season.

Why did I think of Vince McMahon when you mentioned "capacity crowd"?

Isn't it generally a good time to be in Miami, with palm trees, beaches, and girls walking around in skimpy clothes year round?

I may be speaking out of my ass, but it looks like there may be a lot more enthusiasm for Panthers than maybe the Heat? Everyone seems to want them to win.,

Maybe we could stop being so obnoxiously literal when it's perfectly obvious what Brindamour meant by that quote of his.

He doesn't think his team didn't really get swept. He just knows that next year, or in five years, your average fan will reduce this series into a colossal failure by the Canes ("haha, they got swept") while merrily forgetting how close each game really was. Let's not pretend that a sweep is generally used synonymously with a closely-contested series.
I think he was also potentially implying the game winning goal shouldn’t have counted due to goalie interference.

Great job by the Panthers of just stepping up and taking the game away from the Canes when it mattered in every game. I have no idea what Brind Amour is talking about....how many goals would have had to have been disallowed for this to be a series?

You could also say that the sweep humbled them and gave them the mindset they needed to be a real contender.

There's a lot fewer contenders in a given season than you think

Nope, or at least you could tell yourself that. That Tampa team ran into the same hot goalie that just eliminated Carolina. To suggest that a 60 win team and the team that currently finished 2nd in the standings weren’t contenders is just a bad take. You may not like the way Carolina plays or whatever it may be, but a full healthy Hurricanes roster is more than capable of beating anyone.

Cats are the 2012 Kings sneak in and get on a roll. Bob=Quick. So many similarities.

Tkachuk is showing how good he really is. Sandpaper with great scoring skills
The remind me of the 1993 Habs. Both teams were better than their regular season would indicate. Habs were a 3rd seed in their division mainly due to a winter slump. Panthers are a year removed from presidents trophy and dealt with injuries all year. Both Teams figured it out at the right time (partway through rd 1). 93 Habs lost 1st 2 to Nordiques then won 4 straight to win that series, swept the Sabres and beat Isles in 5 going 12-1 from game 3 onward. Panthers have went 11-1 since losing game 4 to Bruins. Habs won 7 of those 12 in OT, Panthers won 6 of their 11 in OT. Both riding a goalie that refuses to loose.

So to continue the pattern panthers win the finals 4-1 with 4 OT wins to equal the 10 straight put up by Roy and the Habs. Habs beat Kings 4-1 with 3 in OT.
