That looks similar to penn states new logo they came out with last year. And FYI it looks a little cartoonish because it's modeled directly from the lion shrine.

I just looked at a couple pages in this thread but is there a photoshop of the logo without the crest and just that model of the Panther head? I think that could look good with the shields being shoulder patches.

I like the design though but I was never a fan of the current logo.

Agreed, except the Panther head should stick out of and in front of the shield. The head itself should be similar size/proportion to the shield, not smaller.

Do I want every team to have a shield? No. But not many do so I like it a lot.

That was my initial thought as well. I liked the old Panthers logo more, but I understand why they're rebranding.
