Played in the Q last year.
He’s a big kid. Not a fan of having two 19yo imports. That means they’ll need to replace both next year in what seems to me like it should be a “go for it” season. It seems obvious to me you should always TRY to have your imports a year apart in age. That way, you’re only ever using your top pick on a player. Even if it is mostly about connections with agents. Wish they would have went D but C is the second most pressing need on the team and he does bring size to the table.

Seems like a very safe pick since he played in the Q last year.

Wonder if they couldn't find a dman that wanted to come based on where they were picking.

Id also guess this would mean they would be shopping for an OA D man to join the top 2 pairings.

Safe to assume that Kressler, Lombardi, and Guryev won't return. Kuzmin will be in the Jet's system.

Bertucci - Smith
Stokjov - __________
Jenken - Gee - Strohack

Sounds about right. Lombardi and Kuzmin are gone. I’d say there’s a very slim chance Guryev or Kressler get returned. If it’s Guryev? Awesome. If it’s Kressler, I think they still need to add a D and an OA is probably the right way to go. Which means one OA forward would need to be moved.

So, I took a quick look back and put a little thought into it. I guess if I had to pick my favorite Firebird’s I’d go with Cavallin, Hay and Kolyachonok. With HM’s going to Kressler, Sam Duchesne, Coulson Pitre, Nathan Day, Gavin Hayes, Amadeus Lombardi, Kole Sherwood, Jalen Smereck, Ethan Keppen, Evgeniy Oksentyuk, Tyler Tucker, Riley Piercey and Jack Wismer. I was a big fan of Matt Tkachuk, Jonah Gadjovich, Alex DeBrincat, Anthony Cirelli, Troy Lajuenesse and Angus MacDonnell. Least favorites? Tucker Tynan, Zayne Parekh and Ryan Merkley.

I was trying to think of a list.

Progression wise, easily Cavallin. Turned into just a monster. Feeling the same way about Day development as well.

Oksentyuk and Lombardi were hella fun to watch. Everytime they carried the puck into the zone you would feel like a goal was coming.

Koly was the most business like.

I think Keppen was my favorite effort guy. Hay is #2 and growing.

Hated you nailed it.
Tynan, Parehk, Merkey, and I think I'd throw in Lennox.

Definitely a safe pick who'll report. But I don't think there's much there. He doesn't really play big and his puck skills are average at best.

Yeah. Without seeing him actually play and just looking at the numbers, my first thought was Max Kislinger 2.0.

With the summer quickly coming to a close and the trade freeze ( I believe) until August 1st, has anyone heard rumors of any players not wanting to return?
Any clarity on OA's? Or on the three goaltenders?

OA's Giroux and Dann. I would bet they trade for an OA Dman, since they didn't land a guy in the import draft. I doubt anyone else that would be eligible is sent back.

Goalies? I'm guessing the 3rd you are adding is Boe Piroski?

It's clearly Daisy #1, I'd guess Jacob Brown would be the #2, and Piroski the #3 (He's an 04, so hes older than Day).

As for the negative banter with players not wanting to return, I don't think the propaganda queen has been around for awhile. She can't have much BS to spew. Couple of billet families I know have been in contact with who ever they hosted last year, and they are ready to get back at it.

Went and watched USA Blue play Finland at Compuware. Gavin didn’t look out of place at all. Had a solid game, picking up an assist on the opening goal in a 4-1 win. Played with fellow Blackhawk pick Oliver Moore on what was essentially the 2nd line. I didn’t stick around to watch the USA White-Sweden game but I’d say Hayes has a decent shot to make the WJC squad at this point. Pretty sure I saw Avery there supporting little bro as I left.

Allen lands with Firebirds | BP Sports Niagara

Does not seem like the kid is reluctant to sign with the Firebirds
D I think is going to be the most interesting spot to watch. Losing Deline, Kuzmin, and assuming Guryev.

Only return 5 from last year, Bertucci and Smith will lead the back end, Stojkov played havey minutes. Gee and Jenken were seldom used.
Strohack was signed and played 1 game, D'Arcy also committed earlier this summer.

I thought they would look for an import d man, but that didn't work out. So I'd assume they would be shopping for an OA D to help the top 4.

Looks like there may be a log jam at D this year with so many younger prospects in the player pool. I'm thinking they want to see who rises to to the top in camp before any more are signed.

Thanks for that dirty. I hadn’t seen that. That’s really good news. I’d prefer they find a high quality OA D even if they spend a little bit during a non-contending season. Help the young D and they young goalies along. I’d like to see Allen signed. Run 8 D. There’s gonna be injuries and suspensions. I’m just wondering if or how long they’ll wait to see what’s going on with Guryev. I absolutely believe he’d be better developed with another year in the O but San Jose might not want to risk the suspensions and drama. He’s gonna hit kids. He’s gonna crush ‘em and there’s a decent chance some get hurt. He seemed to tame things down quite a bit as the season went on and outside of two incidents which I really only felt one of them was out of line.

You get that 2nd round picked signed or be sure you have 100% commitment for next and let the rest of the potential prospects fight it out.
