I agree. Two big time teams playing and Flint in 1st place. Also, lots of tickets available tonight for a showdown against Windsor.
Today is the 3 hygiene products for a free ticket, and its a fund raiser for Whaleys Children Center. I'm guessing it will be a huge walk up crowd.

That would be nice. At minimum, I hope we can can at least get a point tonight.

Couple things. I forgot to mention Congrats to Hayes for setting the rookie scoring record last night and I didn’t realize he had 4 assists to go along with his 2g. 6pts has to be a ‘Birds rookie record too. Just rewatched the Thompson/Othmann crosscheck incident. So, I could see a crosscheck being called there but it wasn’t that bad but after that it’s just comical with Thompson turtling on 16yo Hay before Keppen even gets there and then Allard coming over to push Keppen but he’s turning to run away before he’s even done with his little shove. Considering what just happened to Dickinson, the Soo players aren’t shy about cross checking guys close to the boards.

Busy week for me. Just forget last weekend I guess and hope Pitre, Giroux, Deline, hell, Kressler? are good to go this weekend. Only two games but after the way Day played, I wouldn’t be opposed to him getting a start this weekend. Flint is on the 3 team (OHL/WHL/QMJHL) CHL “Purchase Playoff Tickets” advertisement. Ontario University Athletics named their award winners and All-Stars. Nicolas Mattinen was named along with his Defenseman of the Year and Eastern Conf MVP awards. Owen Lalonde was also named to the All-Star team and Eric Uba was named to the All-Rookie team. Flint has to pick up 4 points this weekend. First place in the Division/Conference is big. Windsor is like 19-1 at home lately so taking home ice away from them if they meet is huge. It looks like London is going to be without Mailloux and Brochu for the year so it’s possible they get bounced in the first round so.... if Flint finishes 1st/2nd it’s possible their (possible) second round opponent is a 7-8 seed. If they finish 3rd/4th it’s likely to be a Guelph/Soo/Owen Sound matchup.

Saginaw scored 5 against Windsor last night and 9! against Sarnia tonight. They’re playing the 3rd of a 3 in 3 tomorrow. Let’s not F around with them and get the W. They should be tired but they’re not gonna be cold.

Nice to go 3-1 vs London this year. Piercey will be missing a couple games. Baber should too but I doubt he will. Piercey’s shot was a reply to the Othmann shot. Not the way to do it. I think Riley is at 3 fights? So he would be gone anyway. The Guelph rematch might get chippy so it’d be nice to have him around. Now it’s no Kressler, Giroux, Piercey. Man, I would love to see this team get a full roster for the playoffs. I think the regular season games from here on out matter very little. If they win out, Windsor would still need to go 3-3 with no OT points to catch them. Not gonna happen. So it’s a 3 or 4 seed. It’d be nice to finish ahead of the Soo but it’s OS or Guelph in the 1st round either way and I don’t have much of choice there. Both are solid teams with a few differences. The Cavallin suspension cost them a point vs the Soo and then he returned with two weak performances. Win that Saginaw game and there’s a glimmer. Win that Saginaw game and one vs Windsor and you got a real shot. Guaranteed home ice and a 1 seed would have been huge.

Listened to it last night on my way home from vacation, wanted to see the Piercey play, but Jack Sznewajs (whom I have become a big fan of) was furious over the call, and how it was handled.

Love how both sets of announcers basically said there shouldn't be anything, everyone missed it. London with the home cooking big time, poetic that Panwars game winner was short handed on that penalty. The ole Rasheed Wallace "Ball don't lie" moment. Couldn't tell on the TV broadcast, but Jack was adamant that the refs were watching the replay on the big board before there was a discussion and a call made.

Baber head shot Othmann before that in a similar fashion and it was a 2. They totally missed the Piercey play and it shouldn’t have been called after the fact with the pad. Piercey did clearly crosscheck Baber in the head though. 2,4,5? is debatable. It wasn’t like he absolutely laid into him but he did crosscheck him in the head and I can assure you it was in response to yet another player cheapshotting Othmann. How many times this year have we watched Brennan get boarded, hit up high etc.? Clearly penalties and suspensions don’t stop it and the league has tried to eliminate teammates responding. Piercey is gonna sit a couple. Baber should too though. I wish Riley had addressed it a little differently but I totally get why he did it.

100% it was a penalty, didn't look like a vicious shot to the face, but 100% a shot to the face.

Babers and Piercey the same thing. Not sure how 1 is 2, and the other is 5.

There are some games left, but it certainly appears like we will be limping into the playoffs. We will be a favorite of others to lose in the 1st round. We need to turn this around now.

Well, at least we got to see one incredible goaltending performance last night. I know they’ve been consistently short some key players for quite some time but they’ve just been flat since the previous Guelph game. They don’t always seem to be up for big games and Cavallin has been inconsistent since his return from the suspension. Can they turn it around and make a playoff run? Sure. But they’re making that road harder all the time. They’re still a young group. One 17yo rookie and two 16yo’s getting regular minutes on D, key forwards like Lombardi and Pitre are still rookies. Maybe they’re just running out of gas. They’ll need to figure it out quick with 5 games left because right now they ARE limping into the playoffs and their round 1 opponent will not be a pushover in Guelph or Owen Sound.

That lines up with what I have heard and what my source told me a few weeks ago concerning Kressler. Saw Giroux at the arena before the game and he looks about ready to get back on the ice.

I didn’t want to say anything until you announced it but yeah....Kressler returning will be huge. I gotta think it’ll take at least until midway through Round 1 to find his form and probsbly a bit longer to actually be 100%. Missing 40 games definetly hurts your development.

100%

But as a 3rd or 4th line C, that will be a big help. I wouldn't expect much from him offensively at all the rest of this year. Should help a bit at the dot tho.
