I really don't understand the cultural reverence everyone has for Chicago style pizza. You can make it at home. it's not particularly special.True Chicago deep dish can only be had in Chicago….
I've had Uno's and Giordano's
And my buddy from Chicago will always bring a few back (from whatevers at the top rated) on the plane when he visits his family.
I think the cultural reverence is way more impressive than the pizza itself.
It's a super rich, pie with a way too buttery-crust. And all my Italian friends are offended by it:
I mean it's not bad, but pizza to me is like sex. Even when it's bad it's still pretty good.
My preference is still towards classic italian style thin-crust pizza with nicer toppings, or a dirty thin new york style slab.
