I mean there must be instances where a winger saw a wide open man in the slot and said “oh shit I need to cover that guy”. And wasn’t like “no. I’m a winger. That’s not for me”

Yeah the weakside winger will sag if there is an open player in the slot and the puck is low. You aren't going to see the strong side winger drop low in the zone when the puck is at the top of the zone. Once your C follows the puck and not a man to the top of the zone, you're f***ed.
