Eichel is worth significantly more than Tkachuk are you kidding

A healthy Eichel? Yeah, without a doubt.

An injured Eichel who hasn't even been treated yet while everyone else is already playing hockey or being treated? Maybe?

If you are right then you have a great 10m player, if you are wrong you have a 10m anchor and also lost your best player for the privilege.

There is a reason why one of the worst teams in the league is trying to move him, and it's not out of kindness

Given Eichel's injury concerns, couldn't it be argued that Tkachuk has more trade value at this point?

The Sabres want four 1sts, allegedly.

Tkachuk *former 1st
Valimaki *former 1st
1st, 22
Two secondary prospects

Tkachuk can be flipped easily for another 1st + prospects/picks, so there's your four 1sts total.

He helps the Sabres win some games this year and next, or they can trade him at the draft, or either of the next two deadlines.

So...

- Tkachuk (Soon to be RFA/UFA)
- 1st in 2022 or 2023 (unknown conditions based on games played by Eichel and/or lottery protection?)
- Former 1st - (ie: Valimaki, Pelletier, Zary, Coronato); Probably not Zadorov or Gubranson :sarcasm:
- 2 prospects - Assuming not a "former 1st" calibre or guaranteed NHL regulars of more than this season (ie: Dube, Mangiapane), of interest we are looking at... (ie: Kylington, Wolf, Phillips, Mackey, Poolman, Stromgren, Kuznetsov, Poirier, Parsons, Pospisil, Ruzicka, Pettersen, Gawdin, Duehr, Froese, Kirkland, DMZ)

Sounds pretty close to the range of what Flames fans have been speculating so far but probably with an extra tolerable piece. The main questions the conditions on the 1st rounder, the calibre of the "former 1st" and the calibre of the 2 prospects?

Guesses...

Higher end:
Tkachuk + 2022/2023 1st (little conditions) + Valimaki/Coronato + Kylington + Wolf
~ Basically 2-3 roster players and 2-3 high end futures. But the problem is that this is worth a bit more than the "4 firsts" package and encroaches towards "5 firsts" range to a Flames fan plus too many roster players removed for an initially IR Eichel.

Lower end:
Tkachuk + 2022/2023 1st (many conditions/lottery protected) + (Zary/Pelletier or Zadorov/Gubranson:sarcasm:) + 2 "mostly who?" names to other fans (ie: Mackey + Poirier)
~Basically 1 roster player and 4 futures. Assuming Tkachuk is conservatively worth around a first and a high 2nd, it's a package worth slightly more than the "4 firsts" package, but not enough to be a major deal breaker depending on the details.

I'd pay something in between both packages.

Copy paste from Reddit since I’m lazy. Imma justify this from a flames POV for some peeps here.

I ain’t shocked. We have 3 top 6 lwers, doesn’t make sense to keep all 3. Tkachuk has the most uncertainty with his contract situation and that 9m qualifier. I don’t think the flames feel certain they’re gonna be able to keep him.
I’d assume the former first rounder is valiamki, and as much as I hate to say it, but kylington has probably made him redundant. He won’t be getting top 4 minutes here, so better to have him get a chance elsewhere. Hope it’s zadorov though lol.
Flames have to value dube and mangi high (since they aren’t listed here). I’d assume they don’t want those pieces gone for a reason.
Tkachuk likely wont get a QO becuase Calgary will file for arbitration in the first window. Unless they already know he wants out, which he has not indicated at all, then this is pretty baseless. Tkachuk hasnt earned 9M and by all measures should probably get arpund 8.5M long term, however it is possible that Flames file for arb then still give him 9M+ on a LT deal

Some of you have forgot how good Eichel is.
Agree. Sucks he’s going to the Kraken division but he’s such a fantastic player. Gong to Calgary makes the battle of alberta must watch imo. Also if Calgary is offering this much, they know he’s gonna be 100 percent again.

And some think he can be had for a pick and a few prospects. It's going to cost a lot more and there will be a solid player from a teams current roster going back if they expect to get him.

Some offers I see on here are quite pathetic. This isn't a player thats 50/50 to ever play again. He's going to come back and be a top 10 player in the league.

The point of trading for Eichel is to improve your chances of winning the Cup... it doesn't make much sense to lose a major win-now piece in Tkachuk in order to do it

If you're Calgary, you want to trade for Eichel and have him play with Tkachuk on the top line...

Tkachuk also makes sense if he has told the Flames he plans on forcing his quality to UFA

Thats only if it goes to an Arbitrator, its the exact same situation regardless of if they give him a QO, 1 year.

Team Arbitration happens every year, last year Boston filed for arb in the first window for Carlo, they still agreed to a 6 year deal before the arbitration meeting.

The only thing different here with Tkachuk vs the QO is the minimum an arbitrator can reward (85% of previous year's salary) and he is able to sign an offer sheet.

Tkachuk is getting way overrated here. He’s looking for big money after his current deal and he won’t be worth it, the Tkachuk family are some of the toughest negotiators in the league and He’d be looking for a 9-10M contract for sure.
Contract negotiations are irrelevant to his value as a player, also the range is 8-10M likely closer to 8.5M
