We got absolutely manhandled physically by Calgary twice in a row, but won both games. I hope people will stop bitching about grit and toughness.

It's not about how hard you hit the other guy, it's about how you respond after GETTING hit that's important. We keep getting back up.

Did we have a 9 game win streak to end that season too?

I know we had a 9 game win streak earlier that year (in January) which began I think with the season debut of Patrik Elias after he returned from hepatitis.

That was also Marty's first shutout of that season and he wound up having a bunch on that win streak.
I think we ended the 2006 season riding an 11 game win streak, followed by a sweep of the Rangers for 15 in a row.

One of the other fellow old timers quote me if I'm wrong.

We are doing so well with some of our key guys NOT being that good namely Hughes and Shara. Just wait until Hughes actually looks the part...

Fitz looking like a genius for that vtec signing so far
I'm really starting to warm up to the idea of Daws as the backup for a million a year.

He may not be good, but he'll save us roughly $2 million on paying $3 million for a BAD/injury case Blackwood.

If we think Daws has potential to be a pretty good NHL goalie, if not starting NHL goalie, he probably shouldn't be in the NHL full time next year, but I do think he's no worse than Blackwood. Last year he was no worse than him with hardly any pro hockey experience at all. I'm pretty sure he'll be no worse than him next year, if not even better. I don't believe in Blackwood at all anymore. The organization really shouldn't either.

Even simplier than that IMO. The Devils have more talent. Look at which team has the most skill players in prime producing years and that team should win.

Tonight it just felt like a good amount of the team was sleepwalking like Bratt was :

Big V basically saved our bacon tonight.

Gave our players (at least some of the them) the opportunity to wake the f up and make plays in order to win the game.

He is our #1 Goaltender and I never want to see Blackwood anywhere near a Goaltender net again.

The physical stuff doesn’t seem to phase Bratt anymore. Once Jack adjusts to that NJ will he that much better.

Ah, yes! That's right! It was 11 games, now that I think about it.

We did have a 9 game winning streak earlier that year as well, which I spoke of.

I think we were under .500 before the start of the 9 game winning streak in January. It took that winning streak, plus a pretty good record the next couple of months and then the 11 game winning streak to win the division.

We were really looking like what was an I guess an 8 year playoff streak at that point, was just about to end and all we heard about was Stevens and Niedermayer and we're nothing without them and we ain't shit and Marty sucks, can't get shutouts without Stevens and Niedermayer in the lineup (as he had zero on the season until right after New Years) and we're done. Larry Robinson stepped down about a week before Christmas and Lou took over.

Wasnt able to watch the game.
Why was it a bad game? Bad defense? I
See calgary had a lot of shots compared to devils
I'm in this boat as well.

So f'n happy to see the result while at dinner though.

Everyone thought I was glued to the other thing that happened today later in the evening because I kept checking my phone. Nope, just waiting for the clock to wind down.

That we beat them in regulation. In a game where we were running on fumes but had spurts. And boxed out and kept our structure and Vanacek made the saves.

That Hamilton scores the 5 on 3 goal to put us ahead - really a key moment in that game - in a game where our power play just had nothing else all night long. How many times the last few years did we squander 5 on 3s? And by the way that was Nico’s screen.

Good stuff. Beating frigging Calgary twice in the first wins we’ve had against them since 2017.

Bravo guys.

Sportsnet after the game mentioned it’s the first time the Devils have swept a season series against Calgary since 96-97

Kind of off topic, but worth nothing because we play them in two more games

Why is it that when Arizona wins games, there's always somebody going ''Oh yeah! They're a hard working team!'' I think it was Bill Spaulding that proclaimed how hard working of a team they were the other night because they beat Washington.

What do they expect? Them to go 0-82 or something like 5-77 or single digit wins? It's the same thing as when a nobody goalie or some shitty has a hot streak and they talk about it like the guy is amazing.

How long have you been around hockey? It’s always a morality play when teams do better than expectation (or do worse). There has to be a reason!
