Not a fan of this trade for Vancouver... Stay at home dmen don't typically stand out till tgier 24-25+. Seems like it was done cause of waivers.
Juolevi also has had injuries which have stunted gis development curve. Schenn is a great comparison for his floor potential.
Have you watched him play? His gap control and pivots? A stay at home d-man needs to be at least average at these things to succeed. He's ****ing god awful.

Only chance he has is heavily sheltered with a partner who can actually play defense and learning positioning from his partner. Also, have him on a full time pivoting regimen until he's not terribad.

Even then, I'm really not sure. It has to be enough to keep him on an NHL roster, and a fantastic one in the Panthers, I'm not sure he stays on.

Juulsen is interesting.. failed to become a regular in Montreal.

Saying Juulsen failed to become a regular in Montreal is pretty harsh, and not really true IMO.

Juulsen looked like a solid 5/6 with room to grow in Montreal until he got hit in the face by the puck, twice in the same game and had severe concussion issues. To me that’s bad luck, not a failure. A lot of Montreal fans were sad to see him lost on waivers because of his potential before his injuries.

I didn’t watch him play in Florida, so I can’t say if he still has that potential, but with some luck and some NHL reps, I hope he regains his form.

I wouldn’t expect a Sam Bennett like bounce back… Juolevi has major mobility issues and doesn’t have the same compete and fire Bennett has. Since he was drafted, we haven’t seen any signs of the player he was in his draft year. If he’s already saying to the press he wasn’t treated fairly then that says a lot, he was given opportunities each year to make the team, the Canucks needed him to make the team but he wasn’t able to and was consistently out played by other players who deserved the shot over him.

Oh f*** right off with this shit, Olli. Any other team cuts bait with your dumb ass years ago.

--------------------------------

Well, at least we got something for him. Seems to basically be a nothing for nothing deal. Long since over the wasted draft pick; any argument for keeping Juolevi is some variation of the sunk cost fallacy. Utterly frustrating player. Will show you good vision one shift, will stare vacantly while his assignment goes right by him the next. A lot has been made of his injury history, but there's no injury that prevents a dman from putting his body between his goalie and an onrushing forward. Juulsen seems to be another waiver wire bust, and I know nothing of the other guy. Meh. Would still rather have them than Juolevi.

Soooo they traded their waiver guy Juulsen and Lammikko to ensure that Juolevi didn’t have to get through the other teams when he was put on waivers too.

I mean I wish all 3 luck in their new homes, but low hopes any of them make the other team regret trading them.

Benning trading away his Lidström. Pretty sure that was the comparison he made at the draft. Good for him to move on though. Also goes to show what a DRAFT GOD he truly is.

Also Juolevi definitely has a higher opinion of himself than anyone else. Should probably be quiet and hope he can carve even a bottom pairing role in the NHL someday.

This pretty much sealed his fate. Horvat had to tell him to get up. He had problems with fortnite, conditioning and multiple surgeries with his back and knee. Garbage pick.
Yikes... this and the Virtanen pick didn't work out at all.

Weren't they both drafted higher than everyone expected as well?

This post linked below provides some on record commentary about the braintrust genius twins Benning and Weisbrod shoehorning Juolevi against the years long work of their amateur scouting staff.

It’s actually a decent laugh how clearly you can see what happened. Hint: look up the rosters of the Finnish World Junior Hockey Championship team and the London Knights team he played with.
