Okay - let’s do it this way instead: let’s give no-income tax states lower cap to compensate so iall teams play o. The same terms. Agreed?
Then I think we should do the same for franchises that can offer massive signing bonuses and front-loaded contracts.

I don't disagree with that, but I think this also sends a message that if you pout we'll give you what you want. I feel like the GMs and owners need to collectively hold the line a little bit... Unless you're the GM of the 4 or 5 tax free, sunny destinations this frat club USA team is angling to get themselves to, this trend should be incredibly worrying
You wouldn't be worrying if it were your team lets be honest.

I am sympathetic to leveling the tax implications of various locations as they relate to the cap and there is probably some way to at least make things a bit more level but in the instance of the Tkachucks are we at all sure that taxes played any role in why they are there? Look at Nashville and Dallas, guys aren't lining up to go there in my view. In the big picture, I think you make a good point but I am not sure in this instance it is what drove the bus.

Brady is overrated. More so I don't understand why anyone would want to trade for mercenaries like Tkachuks. They have no loyalty and play only for the highest bidder. Their father was the same. I think he was probably the second highest paid player of the 90s and 00s after Jagr. There's no discounts when his contract is up in 2 years.

You’re kidding yourself if you think Zito could pull off the same moves on the Oilers, whose only draw to attract players is McDavid
I think endorsements in Edmonton are lucrative. That could be a draw. But I mostly agree.

Toronto and Montreal on the other hand are great places to live and will lead to insanely lucrative endorsements. I bet Austin Mathews is the highest paid player when you include the endorsements.

With all the moving parts yesterday, it feels like Florida massively added to their roster. In fact, the only upgraded one position, wing.

Admittedly, it was a big upgrade and the Panthers top 6 is stacked.

But the depth will be a challenge as they still need to sign 4 players and only have $7 million to do so. No goalies atm and 10 players with NMC.

They likely compete for the cup if healthy (and they get a legit goalie). Another key injury or two and they may be out of the playoffs again.

People are forgetting how cooked Bennett/Marchand looked at the Olympics and down the stretch, at least March is down on the 3rd line and they'll both be rested up for the first time in years

Marchand was injured. Bennett was the team's best player down the stretch after Reinhart got injured.

Injuries are a valid concern, but I'm not worried about Bennett when he's healthy. He got a new contract and responded by playing his ass off in difficult circumstances.
