Mhm, some days it's funny, others it is sad. Wait for McKenna to become the next Yakupov.
He is already according to most I thought. Or Laffraniere. Or we should pick a lesser talent because he “might be better” for the first year or so…

But like... GMs are the ones who give out these dumbass NMCs, it's partly their own doing to go like "we literally cannot trade you unless you say yes" and then go full hotdog-man when the player wants to go to 1 place only
Then literally bully them into being forced into giving more options, this is turning into the NBA a few years ago

took me a second to place the hotdog-man reference lol

Marchand was injured. Bennett was the team's best player down the stretch after Reinhart got injured.

Injuries are a valid concern, but I'm not worried about Bennett when he's healthy. He got a new contract and responded by playing his ass off in difficult circumstances.
Barkov is the real question mark in their roster. Over 30 coming back a blown ACL and MCL. Who in pro sports has come back at their peak from that.

I understand that (and agree with. you). I'm asking for your view on it to understand where you stand.

When you say "an entire generation exhibiting a decreased sense of loyalty to their employer", it comes across as a negative thing. Employers (hockey and other) have show a complete lack of loyalty to employees over the years, so I think it's fine. Players should always look out for their best interest and not worry about loyalty to a team IMO, as much as that sucks for us fans of the team.
I wonder how much of this is owing it to the fans and loyalty to the fans rather than to the team.

It is true, it is a two way street, and employers can get rid of employees anytime, regardless of performance. Business needs will trump employee loyalty.

That said, I do think there has been a prevalent move in society towards individualism, and the lack of perseverance or resilience is not what it once was. To stay with an employer (or employee) during lean or difficult times. One may then can ask how long of a difficult time constitutes endless waiting. What if the employee stays and commits through thick and thin, only to have the employer pull the rug out under them.

It is not unlike marriage nowadays compared to years ago, but not quite the same as marriage is a covenant, not just a limited contract arrangement.

Still, the amount of players signing with a team only to dictate NMC / NTC seems to signal the player's desire to commit to himself first rather than show loyalty to the team that wanted them in the first place. But I get it, it's easy to argue one side, but it does take two to tango...

Wouldn’t have the player empowerment if GMs didn’t hand out NTC/NMCs left and right.

I have no doubt that Edmonton would have won a Cup by now if Zito was hired then.
i wouldnt be surprised if there is some sort of limit to this in the future, most likely something like a team can have 5 or 6 contracts with clauses

So, you are saying that the salary cap is different for every team? And what about players that say that their salary is only one million and the rest is a bonus? Do we fix that too?
No,

I'm saying that the cap is exactly the same for all teams. Just that salary means salary after taxes, inlcuding bonuses.

I disagree…

It’s not dealing Brady that’s the issue. It’s not getting a decent roster player back that is bad business.

Three first round picks is ok value on paper but there’s no guarantees they amount to anything. It’s not a great message to send the roster today that’s expected to be entering playoff contention every year.
That's the price you pay when handing out NMC and the player has one preferred destination. Even though Brady gave a list of 4 teams and the Wild supposedly made a good offer, the fact that the Panthers also made an offer, there was no way Brady would've waived for Minnesota. It's no secret he wants to play with his brother. Considering how few prospects the Panthers have, the return was quite decent IMO. GM Staois can now convert some of those picks to acquire roster players.

Barkov looked great at Worlds. I definitely have my concerns about the roster and how they're going to stay healthy playing the way they do, but I can honestly say I have very little concern about Barkov after seeing him in the tournament.

He's just an exceptional human being, and I think he'll be back with an exclamation point. I hope the rest of the guys can keep up with him.

So what Lundell too Detroit?

That would be wild. Still think they want Lundell in Florida and just find a cheap goalie
The Panthers aren't moving Lundell, he's their future 1C and all of their other good players have NTC/NMC. Unlikely they acquire Larkin, they have little of value left to trade and need 2 goalies. Larkin's best bet is Minnesota if GM Yzerman thinks they have anything he wants.

Sure but what teams are going to want pure picks back? Vancouver, Calgary... other that that, it seems every team is looking to add.

Like Dallas for example, has probably no interest in trading Robertson for picks since they are in a win mode. They want players that make their roster better. That's the problem you are left with when you get just picks back.

Kyrou to the Sens any day now.
Or McTavish from the Ducks. His dad's a scout for the Sens. Peterka in Utah could be another as it seems Utah is underwhelmed with his performance and Peterka and Stutzle had chemistry while playing together internationally. Maybe Debrusk with the Canucks. They have a few options they can pursue.

Every time a Panthers trade is discussed, fans of other teams immediately mention Lundell. I think that should be fairly instructive as to why Lundell is not going to be traded anywhere.

Just a hypothetical if Larkin went to Florida.

I wouldn't trade Lundell if I was Florida probably the best contract that isn't an ELC or at least top 3 contracts in the league.
