Happy for Jones- I don’t recall the exact timing, I think he knew he was signing for more money with a bad team, but things were worse than he anticipated and I don’t think guys fully realize how much it sucks playing on a basement dweller in perpetuity. He’s a good player, the league is more fun with him and Florida going for a cup.

From a Panthers fan:

Spencer Knight is still a young goalie who has shown flashes of being elite. He can be inconsistent and has an ATROCIOUS glove. I can't stress enough how bad it is. He looked good this year. There was an issue getting him signed (demanded to be part of the roster on his ELC) and then was a huge overpay by Zito with his next contract. He missed a year due to OCD (not substance abuse). What I don't get is, Mrazek and Soderblom have no chance, the Hawks are a trainwreck, I'd have focused on the fwd/d more.
Mrazek is irrelevant, it has more to do with the fact that they wasted a high 2nd rounder on Gajan who can't stop pucks in the NCAA and Commesso has been average in the AHL. Thankfully Soda has been excellent this year but he was brutal last year. They need goalie help for sure.

I would have loved a FWD as that is our most pressing need but maybe it just didn't work.

Might be true and he'll definitely be better on a better team but he's been a flawed guy for a while. From Nashville to CBJ and onward. Its not like he just developed new bad habits now. Guys that are complete studs don't get traded 3 times before 30.
Look at the D group Nashville had when they traded him. And in hindsight they got hosed on the trade.

And it's not Jones' fault Chicago tore it down right after they got him

On the surface, this seems brutal for the Panthers.

Guess they got their Ekblad replacement though

Also, looks like Florida is never going to pick in the first round again

Haha so Chicago will have 2.5 million in dead cap space for the next 5 years? Hahahah that sucks.
Chicago has an insane amount of cap space coming up and will probably need the $2.5M in dead cap.

They'll have that $2.5M in dead cap all while adding some really high priced UFAs over the next two season.

Not sure what the joke is? It is a billionaire's money on a team that won't need the retention slot. A total non-factor.
