Ugh...

Don't like that FLA added Jones. This trade should make the Panthers better. I don't think he's a top pairing guy on a contender, but they have Forsling and Ekblad, and he should improve the team.

Haha so Chicago will have 2.5 million in dead cap space for the next 5 years? Hahahah that sucks.

This has so much value, not sure it can be justified with any trade. Five years?!?! That should be worth two firsts at least if not more. Knight is legit though and I guess Chicago really wanted to move Jones.

What??? That's a great return for Chicago. Knight has outplayed Bob this season and is on track to become a top goalie in the league in 1-2 years.
Mid goalies are tough to project. Knight could be good or horrible. It’s a crapshoot. The 1st rounder will be basically a 2nd rounder given the draft position. Chicago retaining $2.5 for 5 years should be worth a 1st rounder in and of itself. Jones is a legit #3 D.

Davidson doesn’t know what he’s doing.

The rangers just got a 2nd for Ryan freaking Lindgren. This is a horrendous return for Jones.

Goalies typically don’t even return that much in trades and knight was signed for another year at 4.5per when he’s never really earned it. I didn’t even know if he was realistically that tradeable, or if so, how much value he’d possibly have with no retention. And the 1st isn’t even our ‘26? It’s the ‘27 1st? And Chicago ate 25% of that contract with 5yrs remaining? We didn’t have to give up the ‘26 1st or Samoskevich? Yeah, I’m really happy with this, I’ve been advocating trading knight for a couple years now

I wish knight all the best though. He started this year horrid again but came around and was having a solid season, albeit with limited starts. Hope he figures it out and does well there

If he turns it around in Florida, he'll look great for us. Just sucks to lose Knight .

I'm ok with it, Bob is never injured and will take a signigicant paycut in a year and can probably play into his 40s. Goalies are available all the time and Maurice's system is great for them.

I too think that Knight is going to be a stud though. But the retention has incredible value, not sure how Zito pulled this one off.

I like this for Chicago.

I also like this for Florida.

Florida loves the tall rangy defenders that can skate

Seth is not gonna see 25 minutes a night, but he won't have to.

As a Canucks fan, I am surprised Chicago was able to pull this off but FLA seems very good at identifying Pro's who will fit their system, In Chi, Jones didn't have any help so its hard to really evaluate him as a casual fan. But clearly, FLA really wanted him for what they gave up, plus minimal retention. Hope he does well in FLA, I respect that team, they play hard.

No… it shouldn’t be 2 firsts. The cap space goes down in value each year.

Before getting too excited let’s see how he plays for the panthers. There has to be a reason this guy has been passed around to his 4th team now by age 30. Teams don’t get rid of great defensemen very easily at what should be a fair cap hit because they are so hard to find.

They arnt gonna spend to the cap for 5 more years? That’s a long time.

I wouldn’t expect that, but for the 2-3 seasons I’d highly doubt that they could even come close. If they did what type of players are signing and to what overpayments? This is a club with a really good D prospect pool and lots of entry level contracts on the way.

That’s why I’d say it’s not a big issue. They still moved out 7m of a contract on a player that wanted out.

Watch Knight play 5 games and then get back to me. He's solid, has all the tools you need, and is only freaking 23.

The retention is a major factor, this is true. But Knight is gonna be so good for such a long time
