I need a lawyer. What can player one be charged with? While it is disgusting what does texting your buddies to come sleep with a drunk chick get as opposed to the guys that slept with her without her consent?
I'm not sure. I think arranging and facilitating a sexual assault is pretty close to acting in one.

Please go ahead and explain how speculation and confirmation are the same thing.

We all knew who the players were (yes you're very smart for connecting the dots) but it's pretty obvious why the site didn't want people to talk about the players involved, until we had confirmation.
It was sarcasm & replies were not necessary.

yup and even if it was consensual at 1st then turned into a rape, anyone still in the room who didn't stop it could be seen as adding intimidation in some way.

Even if they're found not guilty?

Not guilty doesn't mean innocent. Just insufficient evidence that they're guilty "beyond a reasonable doubt". So they could be innocent in that scenario, but they could also be guilty, but with insufficient evidence to obtain a guilty verdict.

If there's a "not guilty" verdict, I'd imagine NHL teams will consider: (1) the general opinion of the public; (2) whether any evidence in the trial was sufficient to really suggest the player was "innocent" instead of simply "not guilty": and (3) how good the player is.

An NHL team probably doesn't want to deal with the PR hit for an AHL tweener like Cap Foote. But for a potential starting goalie like Hart, if they don't think the PR hit would be that bad, they'd be more likely I think.

Even if they're found not guilty?
It's going to be a long time before the verdict comes, the stigma is probably still there, and aside from Hart none of these players are worth the headache (I guess Dube had a good season last year).

If not guilty, they can probably play in Europe. Hell there would probably be a team or two who would hire them even if found guilty.

You're original point seemed to imply that TSN/their sources didn't do anything different than the random people speculating in this thread.

But that's not the case. They confirmed the names with actual sources, which is a significant development.

How did TSN figure it out the names when nobody on this board could?

Mind blowing journalism there.
for those unaware--this site has had to use it lawyers a few times due things posted here. I am not sure I am allowed to talk about the cases.

There is a reason why a zero tolerance position was taken. TSN only ran it when they knew they had no choice and got official confirmation and named their source.

IF you have been here for a while you know the two BIG stories that broke a few years ago where this site named names and went into great detail. (a team from Illinois was involved with neither of them) and over night mods and admins started shutting down threads and handing out infractions like candy--the then owners of this site had to talk to their lawyers and the lawyers gave the orders.

Whether we like it or not--the mods(who most hate me for legitimate reasons) had no choice but to do what they did to protect this site from litigation

here is the thing, There is speculation on line the investigation was reopened when another police force started asking questions
Going by what's stated here:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/poli...r-hockey-sexual-assault-allegations-1.6741216

Specifically:
Three years later, after the allegations became public, London police reopened their investigation.
And:
There was no public awareness of the case until May 2022 when TSN reported that Hockey Canada had settled the civil lawsuit out of court. London police reopened the case after a public outcry.
It may have just come down to public pressure to take another look when the civil case had been reported. Perhaps there ends up being more to it than that, but as far as I can tell, that's what forced their hand.

Not a lawyer but the ringleader who sets up a situation for crimes to be committed is likely in a lot of trouble. An accessory to the crime at the very least. That's to say nothing of the fact that he also might have been one of the people who were trying to coerce her to stay and/or one of the ones who made comments that felt threatening. The videotaping can also be construed as intimidation too.

I don't know what the laws in Canada are but I'm sure there's things similar to the US regarding unlawful detainment and similar acts.

So no expected verdict until 2026. Do these players have to sit out until then? Seems crazy.
Well...
They could be suspended by the league on the basis of the good 'ol disrepute clause. Bettman's discretion.

On top of that, they would also need, you know, a contract.

And I'm not even tackling the possibility that they'd be prohibited from leaving the country.
