Four of these guys have NHL contracts that continue until the end of the season. Do their respective clubs now proceed to terminate them or do they continue to pay them out for another 3 months?
I would imagine that they do not terminate the contracts, let them ride out, don't qualify them, and then move on.

Everyone that knows baseball knows Bauer is blackballed for other reasons. he was never well liked by teammates or anything. He was no doubt setup and wrongfully accused, but it's a lot more than just that stink as to why he's not back in MLB (yet).

Araiza technically commited statutory rape, he admitted to sleeping with a 17 year old girl as a 21 year old. Yes he was cleared of the 'non-consensual' rape and criminality that occurred alleged in another incident that night.

But NFL Teams aren't going out of their way to sign a punter who slept with an underage girl. If he was a star QB or was as good at a more important position, it would prob be a different story.
If I remember right she presented herself as being of age. Under those circumstances that's not something that should hold him out of the NFL, but here we are

I'm not even sure why Rick posted that tweet.

Of course he will, even if he is gulty he's not going going to go "yeah you got me, I did it."

That's not going to happen, they are all going to plead not guilty.
In general, to cover your own ass, why would anyone ever plead guilty off the hop? When/if charges were reduced, maybe.

Honest question, do these guys continue to get paid throughout the proceedings?
Maybe they are suspended without pay, maybe not because the NHLPA would raise a racket. They are all RFAs though, so they will get paid until the summer and I seriously doubt any of them will be qualified by their teams while this is going on.

Unsure about Canadian law, does the fact they are being charged mean something in regards to evidence? Does that mean the Crown feels like its a viable case to bring to trial?
I don't remember the exact wording of the threshold (not being English + not practising anymore), but... yeah. Reasonable perspective of obtaining a guilty verdict, or something really close to that wording.

Because - why now? Cause the sugar turned to shit?

Here's a question. If guilty of these despicable acts, how do you just carry on with life as if nothing happened? Like, does that mean it's their natural behavior?
There are drunk drivers that live with remorse, there are murders that live with remorse.

So i don't see why it's so far fetched that a guy knowing his career his over wouldn't feel that guilt as well even if it's his own fault.

I think the whole innocent till proven guilty means they are still going to get paid.
It would be much worse for the teams if they terminate and the guys are found innocent

If they're charged, it means the Crown is in theory ready to bring it to trial.

In order for police to lay a charge they have to swear a document stating they have "reasonable and probably grounds" to believe an offence was committed.

In order for the Crown to take the matter to trial they have to believe they have a "reasonable likelihood of conviction".

I mean, Jake Dotchin has already been terminated for, essentially, excess body fat. I suppose the team could try to terminate the players, since they'll be even less able to execute their contractual duties, but I don't really know why they'd bother since all of these players are soon to be free agents.

yes, imagine the lawsuit if the teams stopped paying them and they were found innocent
The union is, essentially, obliged to sue in various circumstances.

This is one of those situations where I'm sure that the league, the teams, and the union are in lockstep. They don't want to see lawsuits or do anything that will keep this in the news.

Why now? He was likely informed to surrender by the police shortly before they made their announcement. I'm sure if this investigation had yielded results last season, he mightve taken leave then.

Depends on what the charges actually are, but I heard a podcast the other day that mentioned ten years for sexual assault.
s. 271 sexual assault carries a max of 10 years if proceeded by indictment, 18 months by summary conviction, which is the charge I assume they'd go with. Aggravated sexual assault carries a max of life.

I think I can say this plainly - nobody in Canada gets the maximum penalty. But these kind of allegations can easily be worth several years.

The question is whether being charged is enough of a reason to move to terminate a contract. I believe that's what the Kings did with Mike Richards and the Sharks with Evander Kane.

Would save them million in actual cash and avoid the PR mess of them paying alleged rapists.

I agree he should get one, just pointing out that's likely a notable reason for justification of him not
