I can't believe for even a moment that they didn't know. The NHL is a small world. These guys' names have surely been circulating for a while. The young woman sued in 2022 -- the teams of these guys didn't start trying to figure out then who was on the list? Yeah, right. An NHL team probably doesn't want to deal with the PR hit for an AHL tweener like Cap Foote. But for a potential starting goalie like Hart, if they don't think the PR hit would be that bad, they'd be more likely I think.

No way. Not because they wouldn't from some moral pov, but because if they did they might be forced to answer questions about it. And they're not going to to do that. No, it's over for those players. And part of it is because hockey lifers never want to talk about what they know.

It's in the discretion of the Crown whether they want to lay one information jointly charging all five Accuseds, or lay five separate informations separately charging all five. The advantage to a joint information is you only have one trial, not five, but obviously makes that one trial much more complicated.

What incentive would the team have to call it ‘mental health’ when it’s not - especially when they knew the news would be coming out anyway? It’s not like they were trying to cover it up.

Whether they are found guilty or not, their NHL careers are most likely over. I can’t see a team touching them with a 10 foot pole. Different sports, but look at what happened to Trevor Bauer in the MLB or Matt Araiza in the NFL. It’s just not worth the trouble or fan scrutiny at games

Everyone that knows baseball knows Bauer is blackballed for other reasons. he was never well liked by teammates or anything. He was no doubt setup and wrongfully accused, but it's a lot more than just that stink as to why he's not back in MLB (yet).

As it should be. Look at the Matt Araiza thing in college football. Lost his shot at the NFL over what amounted to be nothing, yet will still be guilty in the eyes of many.

We live in a world with social media where idiots are quick to judge before facts are out, and slow to back track when they're proven wrong. Publication bans are much needed.

Araiza technically commited statutory rape, he admitted to sleeping with a 17 year old girl as a 21 year old. Yes he was cleared of the 'non-consensual' rape and criminality that occurred in another incident that night...

But NFL Teams aren't going out of their way to sign a punter who slept with an underage girl. If he was a star QB or was as good at a more important position, it would prob be a different story.

The payoff happened earlier, and the independent investigation involving Rideout happened in 2018. It's that investigation that reopened things.
The Hockey Canada payoff could only prevent a civil case from being brought forward against the players by paying the plaintiff. The police would have had a separate investigation in parallel where they interviewed with the players and the victims, and they would have based their decision to not bring charges against the players based on that part of the investigation.

If Accuseds are jointly charged, there is also the option for defence to apply to sever - which is to have different Accuseds tried separately.
