It's incredibly disturbing that you can take a group of 20 ish hockey players and (at least) five of them are capable of doing something like this. Whether you want to blame hockey culture, hockey Canada, or just men being pigs on general, this is really upsetting.
It's all of that but it's also a problem in youth athletics in general. These are kids who are told from a very young age that they need to take what is theirs, that they're the best, that they deserve everything. There aren't people surrounding them to keep them in line and tell them no. They have access to everything they want and that feeds an already very unhealthy mindset.

That doesn't change once they turn 18 because now they're suddenly "adults". If anything it's just worse because now they think they can do anything they want.

It's one thing to connect the very obvious dots and have near certainty that we knew who the players in question were, it's another thing to actually be a reputable sports news organization with inside sources that can confirm it.

When the Ottawa Senators don’t have a PR f***up and you do, that’s extremely impressive

Hats off to Calgary

From the league's perspective, it's upside down.

The Sens were the ones who kept the story in the news by refusing to sign Formenton, which the league probably wasn't happy about. The Flames did what the league wanted by keeping things under wraps as long as possible.

We all know what you get when you cover for a rapist. With the 1st overall pick in the 2024 draft, the Calgary Flames select...

Meanwhile, the league will find another way to dock a 1st rounder from the Sens, or suspend a player 41 games.

Is it really likely that they're going to be able to prove this beyond reasonable doubt?
If 1 of the guys flips or they have in court testimony from 1 of the guys in the room but not involve then yes, if all 7 keep the same story than its going to be tough

Honestly man just give it a rest. You're accusing the flames of covering up a story that everyone knew would be national news within weeks. No reason to believe the Flames org did anything wrong.
Perhaps, but even so that only makes the Flames org guilty of being dumb, not malicious.
I'm not saying it was malicious intent, maybe it was a miscommunication. But it sure does look bad now, and the Flames probably should address it somehow. Probably won't happen before the charges are official, but then something needs to happen.

Literally zero chance of this

It will come up. Defense lawyers are ruthless and I asked a few of my lawyer friends if the defense might use the fact that she settled for 3.5 million to try and ruin her credibility, they said they might. No guarantee it works

It’s wild to continue playing a player knowing what was going to happen.
It only happens because reporters know that it's something reporters are not allowed to ask about, Even if they don't identify the players by name, reporters will lose access if they ever asked. And so everyone pretends they don't know what they know.

The Flames definitely need to make a statement about exactly what unfolded, I agree.

Player one allegedly had consensual sex with the victim while arranging for the alleged group assault that happened later in the evening/morning. He was the architect so to speak, and I'm guessing the best looking out of the group.
I need a lawyer. What can player one be charged with? While it is disgusting what does texting your buddies to come sleep with a drunk chick get as opposed to the guys that slept with her without her consent?

Whether they are found guilty or not, their NHL careers are most likely over. I can’t see a team touching them with a 10 foot pole. Different sports, but look at what happened to Trevor Bauer in the MLB or Matt Araiza in the NFL. It’s just not worth the trouble or fan scrutiny at games

If that happens I hope players sue Rick Westblood and London police.
