What I am waiting for is the original police force to explain how it took a different police force to ask questions to get the case reopened. Different versions of events have come out but the original investigation was opened and closed too quickly and at some point in time that will need to be addressed
My guess is what happens with a lot of unresolved crime: not enough resources. When the story became a national headline, they actually committed more resources and got the investigation going.

Doesn't really sound all that comforting for your average Joe and Jane, but that's the sad reality of society.

Not sure what max sentence is for this but its way less than it would be for rape...I'd assume 18 months -3 years it the highest

Until proven otherwise the Flames tweet was an honest mistake rather than a coverup for the player. For all we know he asked for a mental health leave and they said sure.

Sorry for being out of the loop but do some believe they will get jail time or is this more they agree to get help, be on probation and continue to have no further contact with said victim?
If events happened as the worst case then I fully expect jail time, if the events fall in the middle then I expect no jail time

Whether or not you sympathize, getting accused of rape is probably affecting Dube's health. There are more important things to get upset about than the Flames statement. Good lord some condemnation can be performantive as hell.
Like I said earlier, Dube likely requested a leave due to mental health and it was granted by the flames. It was earlier than Harts leave for sure.

If the Flames would’ve just said ‘leaving the team for personal reasons’ ok fine.

But mental health? No, not this.

I mean, If Dube could a) be involved in this and b) lie about this to the world for six years, you think he wouldn’t lie one more time on his way out the door?

“Oh no, the accused gang rapist used mental health as a cover when he left the team.”

POS is a POS.

Here's the thing: five players were charged, but seven or eight players were in the room.
Player 1 is going to have a different court experience than Player 2, 3, 4, 5 and through witness testimony we will hear more and more names of who was around the hotel that night.
Specifically, we are going to learn about the who the adult chaperoning the kids at the gala event.

Sure lol, Calgary was the only NHL team that knew nothing…..
Not saying they didnt know. Saying Dube requested a mental health leave before the players were told to surrender to police. They could have speculated the reason but at the time they didnt know for sure and mental health isn't something to mess with.

Plenty of other things for you to be legitimately outraged about.

There was a Globe & Mail article discussing how the interview Danielle Rideout did with the victim had different questions and answers than what the police had probed.

Also, the victim went to police first, tried to rescind her claim, then rescinded her previous rescindment, so I think the police felt they were in a "he said, she said" type of scenario and didn't pursue charges. This doesn't mean the police didn't think something uncouth had occurred, it just means that there wasn't enough in the claim to warrant resources for a criminal investigation.

This was also at the beginning of the MeToo uptick, so I'm guessing police sensitivity and training was lagging a few years.

edit: to clarify, the victim had told player 1 that it was her mom pressuring her to go to the police, and that she would work to make it go away, but this was only in discussion with player 1 and not reflective of what was actually happening

I hate to be cynical about something like this but how often do you really think the police solve crimes or perform due diligence in their investigations?

If what you're saying is true, claiming that "he's under the care of health professionals" without knowing if he is, demonstrates gross incompetence or it's just flat-out lying.
Exactly. What I'm curious about is what an NHL player has to do to get mental health leave? At my job, I need a physician or mental health professional to provide a note to be granted that type of leave. It doesn't detail why, just how long I am expected to be off before reassessing. Did Dube have a personal psychologist or doctor sign off on this for the team, or was it the team psychologist? I can't imagine it would be granted on the player's word alone.

Also often times police are well connected to rich people. So I wouldn’t be surprised if we learn that the original investigator had a connection to one of the lawyers, the NHL, CHL or hockey Canada.

Whether they are found guilty or not, their NHL careers are most likely over. I can’t see a team touching them with a 10 foot pole. Different sports, but look at what happened to Trevor Bauer in the MLB or Matt Araiza in the NFL. It’s just not worth the trouble or fan scrutiny at games
