ahh kk, they do mention her version in depth yet only say the players saw it differently.
I get what sells clicks but this is a piece designed to promote sympathy not tell the story.

If you google "globe and mail"

Court filing reveals new details about alleged Hockey Canada group sexual assault

This article has the best public information that I found to date. Lots of details on what happened.
ok I will go have a look, the CBC article was rife with implicit bias

What is the article missing from telling the story then? What is it not including that makes the reader on false basis feeling sympathetic towards the alleged victim?

4 more to go.... its going to be an interesting week but we pretty much know who is coming into London police soon.

As for Formenton, a once promising Sens player, hard to see he might just face some jail time if convicted.

they don't go over the player's version of events, they sum it all in half of a sentence, not that I'm pro player here but not even giving a full sentence to to cover the other version of events is the bias.

"What the players told police
Court documents written by London Police state E.M. and the players agree in general on what happened during the night of the alleged incident, but disagree on the main issue: consent.

E.M. told police she consented to go to the hotel room with one of the players, but did not consent to the other group of players coming into the room and those alleged sexual acts.

The players interviewed by police didn't see it that way, according to court filings written by police to request search warrants.
---

What more do you want than that? Unless you expect them to go through all the details of the whole night from both sides,

Kind of a weird flex from you I think!

the article is mainly focused on her version of events, and minimizes theirs, its a classic tactic the media uses to affect the court of public opinion.
Its all good, the globe article gave me the info anyhow

Their version is that it’s consensual and they have video evidence to prove that

Because a traumatized woman wouldn't take stock of her surroundings and assess risks in the aftermath of the traumatic event? Because women who don't comply with their rapists have never been subjected to further violence?

There is a pattern of dismissiveness when it comes to sexual assault that includes downplaying the perception of threats and how they impact consent.
Yawn, are you done with the strawman arguments? You're once again putting words in my mouth.

Find a better hobby than harassing people who are on your side.

I don't think you know what a strawman argument is. Nobody is arguing that it's likely that she would have been beaten with golf clubs. But you have been completely dismissive of it potentially being a concern to a traumatized person. That is what I pushed back against (i.e. the argument you made.)

If that is not your position, then you really need to rephrase.

I don't need to rephrase, you need to re-read what I said. Now you're backtracking from "beating to death" to could have been beaten, which is the same thing I said: "Alcohol and physical intimidation were factors, but even she knew there was zero chance they'd be beating her to death with golf clubs, c'mon man...."

You're putting words in her mouth as to the extent of the physical intimidation.

It seems like a lot of lawyers are going to be arguing the severity this one, for a while. So is this board ! Not to mention potential defamation issues. No wonder everyone that knows anything is hush hush.

An interesting tidbit was dropped in the past few pages. Makes me think this is a longer ladder than we're focusing on right now... Might well go beyond just a group of horny kids. Bigger picture, bigger money.

now thats a rabbit hole that could get real ugly for everyone all the way up if you're satirizing about what I think you are

I guess it depends on the circumstances but the “take good care of him” phrase I interpreted as camaraderie between an older man and a young couple seemingly about to hook up. If he knew the player’s intentions of inviting others that’s a different story but I don’t think this is a conspiracy about reps providing girls or anything. Who knows though?

I read that just fine. You are stating that she knew for a fact there was zero chance that she would be in further physical danger from potential weapons in the room if she had not complied. I am saying that we don't know what she perceived as a threat, but that in her situation there is a good chance that she may have perceived such a threat.

I'm allowing for the possibility, whereas you've completely dismissed it...because...why exactly?

And I've not backtracked on anything. If a rape victim feared being beaten to shut them up, it's reasonable to think that would extend to fearing for their life.

Anyone forming a firm opinion of what happened in that room without hearing all of the facts is a fool. We don't know if the women consented or not and/or if the players had a justifiable reason to think she did. She's now saying she did not consent. The players assert otherwise.

The newspaper reports are based on ALLEGATIONS and/or information from "sources". Not a real evaluation of ALL of the actual evidence. The articles are largely propaganda - reporters and news outlets show much of the same confirmation bias we've seen in this thread.

So many people in this thread want to virtue signal by taking one side or the other. Just stop. You (and I) don't know what happened and don't have any real basis at this point to have an informed opinion.

All we can say with reasonable clarity is: (i) if the players engaged in the ALLEGED conduct, then they should go to jail; (ii) the players and alleged victim deserve to have a trial where all of the relevant evidence is introduced; and (iii) the information in the newspapers is far from reliable.
