It's simply just disappointing. I also see that apparently our advanced stats are pretty darn good and yet we're not winning games. I'll gladly take crappy analytics if it means winning more games.

I coached some high level hockey, analytics were useful when they came in but as players learned how to manipulate them it became less and less useful as a tool and sometimes even detrimental to team success.

Our 5 on 5 is bad because we have 0 grit in the top 6, I'm not talking fighting or hitting, I'm not talking monster guys or anything just players who play like Hyman or Gallagher. If we are looking at this roster Blais should move up, maybe Cuylle gets an opportunity. Players that dig the puck out of the corners and drive the net and arent afraid of stiring things up to get going but can still contribute.

Yeah he’s really utilizing them correctly, doing a great job of that so far this season!

There is a reason this guy has never been with a team more than 3 seasons and you are seeing it first hand. What is his system? Can you explain it? What’s his strategy, other than “Igor has to steal us the game”?

But hey, keep pumping his tires, I’m sure eventually hes gonna prove you right. Or not. Im guessing its the not. Im guessing im gonna get proven right about this guy before you do
Buddy- we are done-- it's boring and just not benefiting the rest of the board.

Facts- He's' an over 500 career coach, he's led multiple team to playoff runs, he's led this team to a few wins away from a cup, he had multiple players have career years last season, he defends his players to the media, he's universally acknowledged as one of the best active coaches in the NHL by experts.

He's also had a hard time sticking with organizations for long stretches of time-- but aside from the rare example, he's not unique in that regard.

Player utilization-
He has 2 lines( 6 forwards) who can contribute right now. He plays those guys more than others.
He has a skilled based team- He plays a style that allows for creativity and his players to perform to their strengths
He has allocated more ice time to those that are playing well( something he promised his players he would do--a sign of respect--)

Enjoy your miserable existence on this board- I have better things to do than argue with you over a coach.

I want to say something but I'm still almost speechless about this game and this team.

It feels like the wheels are going to fall off at any moment if there's not changes and these players/coaches don't exactly do changes.

Fox, Schneider, and Igor all a notch or two below what they were a year ago.
Kakko, Laf, Chytil, Kravtsov have not lived up to their hype.
Lundkvist and Andersson already shown the door.

Something fundamental is broken.

Such a disappointing loss. I hate losing to that shitbird expansion team.

Positives:
- Adam Fox still playing great hockey even when paired with Hajek (who wasn't bad himself in this one). That move he made on Beauvillier was a thing of beauty. Too bad he couldn't bury the back hand.
- Kratsov didn't die again.

Negatives:
Trouba, Mika, Panarin, Kakko (playing with Panarin) Laf, team defense, execution (handling the puck, passing the puck to each other with accuracy) and goaltending. Every coach in this league will tell you that if you're going to win tight games against quality opponents, you're going to have to get a few big saves from your netminder. I'm not saying that the goalie needs to stand on his head the entire game and stop 40+ shots, but you have to get the key save at the critical moment in the game. Varlamov made them, Igor did not.

That 1st shift in the third period was just absolute crap, for every Ranger player on the ice. Terrible, seemingly uninspired hockey.

I only liked your post because of the entertainment factor, I havent heard the term 'hot box' in years.... and Zibaneweed made me chuckle
A lot of what I post is half-truths, a lot of it is just me being sarcastic and silly.

But Zibanejad has looked really bad this season. I don't know if its a conditioning issue or what.

Ok, then lets just spread the kids around the top 9 and lose games, our top 6 is soft as baby shit....solid plan
"Soft as baby shit".....no truer words were ever spoken !!! The sooner Cuylee and Othmann arrive ....the sooner we become harder to play against . Our team yellow streak outside of a couple of guys is pathetic....we take too much shit and don't wreak any havoc . Case in point ...on the breakaway set up by Trocheck....the trailing guy was scared shitless to give the Isle goalie a poke for a rebound.....he could NOT get out of there fast enough . That happens far too often every game .

We miss Lindgren a lot
Take our one single legit non yellow decent hockey player out....and this is what happens .

The team needs more structure. They're an unorganized mess out there. I know people didn't like Torts hockey or Renney hockey, but boring structure works if you have skill guys that can impact a game like we have. No one is saying stifle creativity and offense but they need structure, more attention to detail. I'd abandon the man on man and start zone coverages. Guys are caught running around too much. Not to beat a dead horse buy if you watch our worst player, Carpenter, and follow him on a shift the guy is lost running around. What they're doing now is completely ineffective.

Look what a coach like Torts is doing for a team like Philly. They won't stay on top of the standings but his systems and demand of accountability works everywhere he goes.

I thought one of the bright spots was Kravtsov. He played a decent game. Was robbed in front early in the game. He went to the net and was conscious about playing defense.
And oh yeah, when Hajek is not your worst defenseman...

Looking at you, Captain.

This. Trotz could take this team far. Gallant is brain dead
I like the idea of Trotz. I'd make that move.

Can we please just put the Kid Line back together as our 2nd line. Put Panarin with Zib and Kreids.

Trocheck with whoever on the 3rd line.

And can we get rid of Carpenter and put a decent 4th line together.

As bad of a home game loss as I can remember.
You must have very bad short term memory then.....(like me). That Red Wing HOME loss was even worse than this one. 2 zip lead against a supposedly inferior team. At least this was to a very respectable team. Still.......SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN.

I think that's something we can all agree on.

Our forwards don't commit to D enough and they're not the 80's Oilers with scoring goals. This group has never been great finishers.

Our defense is not what it was last year. Jones/Schneider have been awful. Trouba is a god damn train wreck and it's bringing Mantis down to his level.

And our goaltending is not as good as last year.

It's all a recipe for tightening things up. Whether we do it or not is another story. Maybe they turn things around and the analytics match the results. It's still early and I'm not firing the coach yet, but I am keeping my eye on what we do.

I think Gallant gets fired because his system relies almost entirely on effort and not on organization or discipline. Wheels are coming off a bit right now because the attention to detail, the discipline is just nowhere near strong enough.

We’ve seen this happen to multiple pens teams over the years but Mike Sullivan almost always finds a way to instill the structure back into that team so they can overcome their deficiencies. Right now, we have a world of talent but the sum is far inferior to the parts.

It’s going to come down to the team trying to will themselves back to legitimacy by sheer talent and force - which will exhaust them. Or we will find a a new coach who instills a system and discipline that puts team concept first.

Gallant + Panarin is a real detrimental 1+2 force in regards to creating team concept. Panarin has become far too predictable because he refuses to play without the puck.

I think that's something we can all agree on.

D would look stellar if we had more structure. If it was one or two guys who were consistently garbage I’d agree, but it’s all of them having bad years defending. It’s a team-wide issue. Don’t think they’d look stellar if Torts were the coach?

I wonder what the takes here would be if we lost to the Pens in RD1 last season?

Probably that the current vet group (Panarin, Zib, Kreider, Trouba) aren't cutting it and should be jettisoned while we try to rebuild around Fox, Miller, and Shesterkin.
