Yet we have prospects that can come in and legitimately compete for a spots in camp next season. It's a weird concept I know, and we will have posters that rip those kids apart YET will pine for whatever unknown 1st round pick that we won't have a chance to draft after next season..

Im not about to blast those prospects knocking on the door, but I dont think its outlandish to say that most of them won't make it. So, its about maximizing assets.

So do the Rangers. Do you know who number 20 is? That's Chris Kreider, he will probably finish in the top 3 for in the Calder voting this season. Who is the backup goalie on the Rangers? Cam Talbot....Gee, I wonder what system he came from. Has Talbot been important to the team this year? Who is this young guy J T Miller? Is he on the roster? Has he been given chances to improve the roster this season. When the Rangers defense was banged up, did Connor Allan come in and play well? Did the Rangers borrow him from another team? The Rangers had Fast on the roster the first month of the year and he's had a good year developing in Hartford. Who is this guy Lindberg that will compete for the 3rd/4th line center role next year? Gee, I hope he's a Ranger prospect. Wow, other teams will have prospects too...That's amazing!

What scouts have given this "general consensus"? You said scouts so start naming some.

So you say I'll say anything can happen and then come back with

Ya know, I can interpret that as you saying anything can happen. Hmm, if we are ranked too low or too high that might mean......gasp....Anything can happen.......

I'm not even going to address this post because of it's immature nature. You can have this type of argument with someone else - your posts are irrelevant to me.

If anyone else wants to have a rational discussion about this, please post.

I think it's more than likely most of them won't make it. The Rangers are not in a position to maximize prospects. Look, if the Rangers traded for St. Louis and they weren't in a position to acquire a player like that both in the standings and with a barren system I'd be jumping up and down screaming about it. The thing is, trading a 1st round pick is not the end of the world. It probably won't hurt the franchise in the short term or long term. The Rangers have over a year to get a 1st round pick back. I doubt they end up doing that but who knows what will happen. If you told me 2 months ago Marty St. Louis would be a Ranger I wouldn't have believed it.

What bothers me are the posters that pretend we don't have prospects in the system. The posters that just want to complain and use farfetched arguments to prove a point that doesn't exist. I'm not saying you do that. I'm late to this debate but reading this thread is like going in a time machine to 10 years ago. We have posters that will say if you like the trade you MUST support Glen Sather when that's not even close to being true. We have posters that **** on on prospects but are crying about losing draft picks. It's crazy, because invariably if the Rangers had a 1st round pick next year THOSE SAME POSTERS would destroy the pick. They are backseat drivers and that's fine but for them to paint optimistic fans as fools is ridiculous.

But you're upset about the Rangers trading picks which probably won't make it for the league's leading scorer in recent history?

I have nothing but respect for the people that put that list together but Jersey Girl said
And scouts' general consensus is their prospects are rated more highly than our prospects. Weird concept, I know.

And what you posted was not from a scout. It was from a publication, and is a compiled and well thought out opinion....from the Fall. I'm curious what the rankings will be after this season. A lot of kids took forward steps this season.

The picks are not prospects yet, they're draft picks. If your argument is that we should trade draft picks because Sather is not good at draft picks, that's a different discussion.

Seriously, you don't need to be an astrophysicist to predict what this team's farm system will be like in the near future, on the path we're headed.

Who is about to be 39 years old? On a current roster that continues to have major holes?

...Yes. I think thats pretty reckless.

Sounds like you just want to ignore the post that completely counters your argument

By the way, responding =/= ignoring

That's exactly what it is...Too bad because I usually enjoy Jersey Girl's point of view, I guess some people can't take it when someone responds to them.

That's all you have to add? Good stuff

Connor Allen
Dylan McIlrath
JT Miller
Chris Kreider
Jesper Fast
Cam Talbot

These are 6 Rangers prospects who have played for the team this year. Two of them have played an important role for us.

That good enough for you?

This is exactly why I've been stressing the importance of prospects. It needs to be a well.

I never said the Rangers didn't have prospects. My only contention was that people talk about our prospects like because we have prospects, Sather is doing a great job developing prospects.

I'm sure you can make a list like this for every team in the league - especially if you're just going to mention guys even if they've just had a cup of coffee.

Is the well running dry? We have 6 to 8 prospects that have played or could play on the team this season. Not even counting Haggerty because I have no idea if he is even an option.

We have Brady Skjei unsigned but he might be ready to sign after this season. I'm not even talking about DuClair or Buchnevich who both are legit prospects but are at least two years away from competing from a spot.

I guess you just have to hope we can restock outside the top two rounds. I think some of the UDFA signings we've made the last couple years have me hopeful we can supplement a core well enough. I'm no expert scout by any means, but our last draft has me pretty optimistic so far. Duclair and Butch look (from very afar) like they could be third round steals and Skapski looks good too.

Maybe, but 5 out of those six I would have no problem going to war with.

Um...yeah? Kreider is graduating, so our top prospects at their positions will be JT Miller, McIlrath, and...will Talbot still be a prospect? We're trading all our draft picks, what's the most likely scenario? Barring some miraculous late picks and diamond in the rough college signings...

I do hope they can. Very much so. But that's not an acceptable game plan to me, hell is that even a game plan?

A prospect graduating is meaningless except to HF's prospect ranking.

The Rangers still get to keep Kreider.
