To answer the question, his social skills are off the charts so that's one thing. Also I believe he represents something, hard to exactly pin down, not just youth, more like the essence of modern urban male, that so many other hockey men don't represent.
Does y'all like that he repreasents that sire? I like Lou........................................................
I would have liked if we'd kept him (the Lou) milord. Look at how his team the isles with kommy and matt are again doing.......... advancing like a gameboy back in the days. Every year. Just like montreal is sire.

Why can’t we ever have just a normal GM.
One who doesn’t think he knows better than everyone else?
Oh I’m going to start a new trend and the NHL will follow my curve.
Or a rebuild doesn’t have to to take a few years so I’ll just trade all my 1st round picks and show you how smart I am.
Or anyone named Nonis/Stellick whatever.

The Leafs have the best GM in the NHL under age 40. Time is on his side. They should continue to let him grow into the job. Developing talent doesn't just apply to the players -- it should work throughout the entire organization.

I look at John Wooden and the UCLA Bruins. It took a while, but once he got there he wouldn't let go. It was definitely worth the wait. He didn't win a single championship in his first 17 years as a coach. Then he won the NCAA mens' basketball championship in ten of his last 12 years, including a record seven in a row.

Looking at the Leafs, their most successful coaches and general managers are generally the ones with the longest tenures. Churning coaches and management doesn't really help build a successful franchise.

Patience and stability is a good thing.

Sure, in some place like Winnipeg, Columbus or Arizona. Then once he's grown and proved his theories aren't a steaming pile of crap, up he can come back to the big stage.

Same thing for Keefe, go learn how to make a PP work somewhere else and let us know when you've figured a few things out.

I've been watching the Leafs more than 40 years, and I'm tired of seeing them chase other teams' over-the-hill cast-offs -- be that players, coaches or managers.

Cliff Fletcher, Brian Burke, Lou Lamoriello all had success elsewhere but not in Toronto. I would much rather have people on the rise instead of yesterday's men chasing past glories.

No kidding........it's a different level. Can't believe I actually thought the Leafs actually had a shot this season.
You did? The vast majority of your posts shit on the Leafs.

This colorado vegas game lol
This is real playoff hockey

You know, these teams were ramping up to this level of play late in the regular season. Colorado won 5 games to take the Presidents Trophy and their first 6 playoff games.

Meanwhile, Toronto was casually dropping games to Ottawa and Winnipeg and the fanbase was talking about load management for the boys. Just stay healthy they said. Meaningless games they said.

Goes to show championship habits are a real thing and evidently so are country club locker rooms.

Here's Leafs' fans wanting to fire Dubas and falling all over Colorado.

Joe Sakic has been in charge there for eight years and hasn't won anything for them -- yet. Missed the playoffs several times, had first-round losses, no conference finals and has rarely reached the second round. Never as many as eight playoff wins in a single season.

Despite that, he's an excellent GM and Colorado was wise to work with him despite his lack of success and lack of previous experience. Their ship might well come in this year, now.

If the Avalanche were as jumpy and short-sighted as many Leafs' fans, they would have churned GM's long ago.

Fair but at least his top end players produce and he improved the supporting cast. The leafs top end guys havent produced in 4 straight 1st rounds. With 40 mil locked up for 4 guys, i would say the leafs are in a different situation than say colorado 2-3 years ago and are likely screwed.

Joe Sakic and the Avalanche also traded away former franchise cornerstones Ryan O'Reilly, Matt Duchene and Tyson Barrie because they weren't a suitable group/mix to build a winner around.

too bad you left out that Sakic took over the 2nd last place team in the league which needed to be completely rebuilt unlike Dubas who walked into a team that had just came off a franchise record

different circumstances mean GM's have different expectations and time frames to accomplish them

your boy Dubie's problem is the team keeps regressing every season he's been GM and if doesn't get kicked to the curb this off season he will the next if the team doesn't improve

I can't be the only who finds it sad that Dubas essentially represents the modern "male". No wonder this team is so soft, it's starts at the GM.

There isn’t one correct way to look or act. As long as he’s being himself, I don’t care how he wants to portray himself.

Having said that, hockey is a sport that does demand certain characteristics to succeed. I’m not sure he understands that.

? ? ? What does any of that have to do with comparing Sakic to Dubas?

O'Reilly and Duchene were both unhappy in Colorado and asked to be traded. Hardly a sign of great management.

At the time of his trade, Barrie wasn't a cornerstone-- he was a spare part. A powerplay specialist with weak defensive skills.

No problem with those trades, but I don't know how they differentiate Sakic from Dubas.

I think Dubas would be a fine GM for the Toronto Six.
