Luke from the first half of the season and Nemec all season have both been better than Severson and Graves. The eye test bears that out and the fancy stats bear that out.

There is absolutely no way you can convince me they are better at this point. Graves played top shutdown minutes and had a very good season with us. Severson was dominant from the third pair.

How stupid of a GM do you have to be to think it's okay to miss the playoffs this year like this and make no substantial change?

73% of the games you're scored on first. Your coach sucks and your idea of not trying to get a goalie in the off season because you didnt want to part with Mercer, who sucks and is mid at best, was what held back any good goalie that would've gotten this team in a playoff spot easily.

I've said it numerous times the rumor was the Bruins wanted mercer as a starting piece for one of their goalies.

Also, Mercer is not good. Some of you have a weird attachment issue with players you over hype.

He tried earlier in the year. My Flames connection said he tried for Markstrom and Hellebuyck but the offer wasn't right.

Mercer is having a down year but an all situations player who can probably be a 70 point player is a bum ? He's practically a core player behind Jack , Nico , Bratt , Luke and Nemec. He's right there behind them. Tradeable ? Yes. Valuable to this team now and in the future? Yes.

Yeah Fitzgerald has done some frustrating stuff by not firing Lindy and this trade from today is kind of a dumb move as well but you are being a bit dramatic. We don't need to overpay for players in their mid 30's. This season wasn't really cup pr bust. It's next year when the pressure to bounce back that Fitzgerald and the players will feel the heat.

I’m not Mercer’s biggest fan at this point but if he’s such a worthless plug, why do you think all these teams want him going back to the Sharks in the Timo deal? This isn’t ’the fanbase’ overrating someone, other teams want him badly.

Mercer isn't a worthless plug, but he is (and always has been) largely overrated by the fanbase. He had a hot start to his rookie year that endeared him to everyone and he's a great kid, but quite honestly he's not a core player.

He disappears for long stretches, he can't drive a line on his own, his offensive upside is fairly limited, and he isn't great defensively.

He's a prime candidate to move as a key piece in a blockbuster while he's still young and has value around the league.

Yeah I hate fitz mostly bc of how he was parading around taking bows all last season and now nowhere to be found. Aside from the bush league presser about his extension the night before the McLeod stuff finally came to. He is a pansy which is par for the course with the organization. Fair enough. Although I wish I was as confident about Lindy being gone bc I’m not. I agree that part of the blame falls on Fitzgerald (Ruff doesn't help but he has to deal with the roster that has bad goaltending combined with being forced to play three #7Ds and Luke Hughes who can't defend at the NHL level) but in the salary cap world you can't consistently fix issues by adding expensive pieces, especially if it costs you cheap assets.

You need to fix issues by drafting, developing, creative and out-of-the-box signings and not by paying for the worst years of Palat's, Meier's and Hamilton's careers. Markstrom/Saros/Ullmark would be another move of this type.

Yep. The Devils don't have any young forwards in their system at all. They're probably going to trade their 1st this year.

He's been a huge disappointment for sure and maybe he will be traded, but yeah it's pretty grim in the system. Hameenaho and that's it for U22 forwards.
