When he was a kid he'd rage at his buddy's shooter tutor that they used for street hockey. "IT'S JUNK! WET CARDBOARD! IT SMELLS LIKE YOUR GRANDMA'S BASEMENT LARRY! IT CAN'T EVEN STOP A HOCKEY BALL! HOW AM I GOING TO GET GREAT SHOOTING AT THIS DEAD, FINISHED, COOKED THING? KEEP DRAGGING OUT THE CREMAINS OF A DECENT TUTOR LARRY! MAYBE ITS FINE FOR KIDS ON SAWGRASS PLACE BUT IT WILL NEVER WORK HERE! AND YOU KNOW TH--- CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Ever since @Bleedred went to the Panthers game to video Blackwood and we all got to hear him yelling at Blackwood I know exactly how that would sound. It was glorious. Great work.

I want a change in coaching too, with the caveat that I hope to see it after the season. Not now. That said: I give Ruff credit for adjusting, in fact designing, his old system to the players here.

The swarm and the forwards flying the zone were meant to free up Jack Hughes, Nico and Bratt for transition offense, and not having them overly burdened with defensive responsibilities in front of our crease. Last year it worked. We had defensemen who were better at gaining possession and making stretch passes, and a quicker and healthy forward group to exploit the fast breaks.

This season, with turnover in players and injuries, the roster no longer fit the system as well but the jury is still out on whether returning to a more traditional structure actually makes us a more or a less competitive team.

Was it really him though? I'm willing to bet it wasn't. Why'd it take so long then? And during a time when they had over a week off....

Like first of all, the "new" system isn't even some super innovative thing. Second, he probably got told from up top or somewhere to change it

I'm so sorry to learn this and for what it's worth we think you're pretty cool and enjoy having you around here, so obviously, your father's misdeeds didn't damage you too much.

Abusive or neglectful parents suck, especially when they survive the good ones. You're not alone in that.
I appreciate all this.

I have inherited some nasty traits from this person. My propensity to take a victory lap and remind everyone I was right on Kinkaid being out of the league within two years and how there wouldn’t be a bounce back from Cory or Mac Black are exhibit A.

But I’ve also gotten some stuff wrong. Usually not with the goalies though. Thought Florida was just too far out of it down the stretch last year to get in the playoffs.

Thought for sure Ruff was gone after 21-22 and he wasn’t. I think I’ll be right this time.

I also thought DeBoer and Hynes would not get a job as a head coach right away after we fired them. Or for several years after it. Looking back on it, I was terribly short-sighted with DeBoer. I should have known better on that one. He was highly regarded years before he coached in the NHL.

But Hynes? I’m still surprised he got a job so quickly. Not this time I’m not, but a month after being fired by us? I don’t regret that declaration at the time. I do regret the DeBoer one. Hynes was/is also highly regarded.

I don’t care what I’ve said about any coach. Including Ruff.

Travis Green is terrible. I think he’s a big part of the problem and he’s still riding the hot start of the power play to where it looks respectable on the year, despite being 23rd in expected goals (that was before last game, maybe it climbed a spot with the really good 1st period power play lol) and he hasn’t done shit to be respected as head coaching material in this league if that’s who Fitz thinks he’s gonna replace Ruff with.

One stupid Demko powered playoff run/playoff berth, which wouldn’t have even happened if 26 teams didn’t make the playoffs. Because they would have been one of the teams that didn’t make it. I think that was a safe bet.

And then Vancouver getting way better in almost every metric after Boudreau took over that year. I know they regressed back to that in year two of Boudreau and that’s why Tocchet happened, but I can’t take Travis Green seriously as a head coach. I don’t take him seriously as a deputy or associate coach either.

Unless he thinks he can blame this all on Lindy or most of it on him.

Ruff is still the lesser of two evils for me. Hopefully someone wants to take Green off our hands this offseason like they did Brunette. Somehow I doubt it though. He was expected to be a really hot commodity in 2021, when he was a lame duck and there was a frantic rush to sign him before Seattle named him their first head coach. The Canucks re-upped him in time and fired him about a month into the following regular season. If he’s gonna be a head coach again in this league he should get a chance with some team that isn’t supposed to be good, like David Quinn had to do with the Sharks.

Rogalski shouldn’t be let off the hook either.

Between the slightly improved goaltending numbers lately and the all the heat coming down on RuffGreen for the horrific power play and the two completely abysmal efforts over the weekend, it feels like he’s a bit under the radar right now.

how many teams can overcome the loss of a 20 goal/70 point 20 minute/night DMan better than what NJ has this year with Nemec stepping into Hamilton's role?

I'll let you list them off.
He is a 19 year old rookie who cannot replace his offence. We have also not replaced losing what Graves and Severson brought last year. It is a massive turnover.

Hughes and Nemec have both been better than Severson and Graves last year.

Anyone see the classic Seversonesqe meme move he made today? It's another one for his top 10 blunder reel.

They definitely have not. Frankly it is not even close. Graves played top shut down minutes and Severson was arguably our best even strength Dman.
So you haven't watched this year and missed the second half of last year and the playoffs. Got it.

Probably should be in the team thread.

I can’t keep up with which thread I’m in anymore.

I’ve seen Severson pass the puck to opposing players right in front of the net but I don’t think I’ve seen this move before.

YFW an AHL tweener is your top performer.

Moving on from Graves and Severson was the right move but it does not mean it does not hurt.

The players they were last year for this team were not replaced. They both may have regressed this year, but it doesn't change the fact that we lost 2 productive players from last year. Luke/Nemec will be better players but they are not there this year. And losing Dougie is obviously a massive loss.

Somethings I'm shocked need to be said.

But I would add they are not only not there this year but they probably won't be there next year either.

Both of these players, while obviously incredibly talented are also incredibly green.

Severson sucks. Don't miss his dumb ass at all.
Severson would be the best Dman on this team right now by a million miles.

Lol. Keep believing your cards.

Nemec is lost in the headlights at least 2 times every game
Do you watch the games? Nemec’s decision making is already way better than Severson’s. It’s amazing to use the concept of “looking lost” to boost Severson, who was due for a catastrophic error a game.

Severson was a fine mid-pairing defenseman. Nemec is already blowing past that.

Luke from the first half of the season and Nemec all season have both been better than Severson and Graves. The eye test bears that out and the fancy stats bear that out.

He’s not saying he isn’t better, but he’s not better playing first pairing minutes than Severson was playing third pairing minutes.

He isn’t, not yet. He’s still learning and does make mistakes.

I don’t even know what that means. He said Severson would be the best defenseman on the team by a million miles. Categorically false.
