Do you watch the games? Nemec’s decision making is already way better than Severson’s. It’s amazing to use the concept of “looking lost” to boost Severson, who was due for a catastrophic error a game.

Severson was a fine mid-pairing defenseman. Nemec is already blowing past that.
This is ludicrous on so many levels. He's a child learning and still figuring so much out...that shows in his game every single night. He's slow to react frequently. He makes bad reads frequently... I'm not sure how you don't see this honestly. He left Siegenthaler out to dry twice against San Jose and Daws cleaned up the mess.

you just described Damon Severson.

You’re not comparing him to Scott Niedermayer, you’re comparing him to Damon Severson, a guy that half the fan base hated with a passion. I was considered a Severson apologist. Even I would admit the guy was a complete imbecile at times. Nemec is just better already.

Severson’s gaffes have to be some of the most overstated things I’ve seen on this board. He was a very good middle pair D with the misfortune to play on some shit teams.

I’m thrilled with Nemec, he belongs at this level, but his sleepiness in the d zone was true before the draft and hasn’t been corrected yet.

There’s a reason Severson would consistently underperform his expected goals against, and it wasn’t all goalies. He made catastrophic errors. And he stunk at defending odd man rushes.

You have described nearly every Devils d man not named Greene, Marino or Siegenthaler for the last decade. And oh yeah maybe Kulikov.

Nemec is not better than Damon at anything right now. Not a single thing. Certainly not in his own zone, not in transition and not in the offense zone... literally nothing.

And yes Severson would absolutely would be the best Dman on this team right now. By a lot.

I absolutely love Damon, and he is a good player. But his giveaways and gaffes were too numerous and HORRENDOUS. That cannot be denied

Nah, I think Nemec is better in his own zone and better in the offensive zone. Damon has the edge in neutral zone play and transition IMO

He’s both better than Severson has been this year and better than Severson was last year.

This is just beyond ridiculous.

Half of Nemec minutes are very protect minutes, he plays on a team that scores significantly more goals.

Columbus is -40 goal differential.

Just stop it.
Damon Severson played protected minutes last year on the best regular season Devils team in history. Nemec is not being protected on a shitty team in comparison.

No he didn't. Where are you coming up with this nonsense? His minutes and zone starts 5v5 were identical to Siegenthaler who was technically on the first pair.

@Guttersniped I could use your assistance with some charts.

Graves-Marino played by far the toughest minutes. Wasn’t close, at all. Severson was a 3rd pairing defenseman when Marino was in the lineup.

That doesn't mean everyone else played "protect minutes"

Graves most common partner after Marino was Severson.

Severson played as much with Graves and Siegenthaler combined as he did with anyone else...calling him a 3rd pairing Dman is bullshit

So was it Dougie or was it Marino? I await your wrong answer. Anyway, this is all meaningless, Nemec is the better player already. Good for us!

Severson was used situationally

Hamilton...most common partner Siegenthaler. Hamilton's next most common partner Severson!!!

Siegenthaler most common partner Hamilton. Siegenthaler's next most common partner Severson!

Graves most common partner Mario. Graves next most common partner Severson!

Marino most common partner Graves. Marino's next most common partner Severson!

You see what's happening here?

On a hockey team there is a 1st pairing, a second pairing, and a 3rd pairing. We had 3 right handed defensemen last season. Who was the 3rd pairing right handed defenseman?
And those pairings change based on situations. Severson played about half of his 5v5 minutes with Bahl/Smith (about 730 minutes) and the other half with either Siegenthaler/Graves/Dougie/Marino (about 630 minutes)

It's a stretch to call him 3rd pairing. At Even Strength Severson was 4th in TOI Graves was #5. But the difference between Dman #2 through #5 was negligible.

Rogalski shouldn’t be let off the hook either.

Between the slightly improved goaltending numbers lately and the all the heat coming down on RuffGreen for the horrific power play and the two completely abysmal efforts over the weekend, it feels like he’s a bit under the radar right now.

Shit even if everyone else gets canned, if he is left standing it’s a failure.
