It’s been some time since I’ve posted anything on this forum, but thought to weigh in on this thread.

If Holland should be fired, so should the other GMs in the league who saw their team exit in the first two rounds.

The man managed to bring back nearly everyone this past offseason (when most thought it impossible), and bolstered our team at the deadline.

Our rookie goalie was decent during the season, but played poorly in the playoffs.

We all would have bet money on RNH/Hyman/Kane scoring a combined 1.5 goals per game (at minimum), rather than what they produced. Especially after the regular season that RNH/Hyman had.

Not sure you can entirely fault a GM for players going cold at the wrong time.

Just my $0.02. Flame away.
Leveled take.

Holland's fault Draisaitl had 1 assist and a -7 in the last 4 games
Holland's fault Skinner stunk and Woody refused to try Campbell

get real
Not Hollands fault Draisaitl had a tough final 4 games. But it is Hollands fault that the team can’t survive that happening.

And yes it’s absolutely Hollands fault that our goaltending isn’t good enough.

Honestly and some one point on where I'm wrong, has a goalie for the Oilers "won the team" a single playoff/play-in game the last 4 seasons under Holland? I can't remember any.

The last time I think we won a game in the playoffs because our goalie basically stole the game was Cam Talbot in 2017.

Which team can? Vegas won because their best player (Eichel) was their best player

how do we know if Campbell never even got a chance?

He never got the chance because he was the worst starter in the regular season, so bad that it spooked the coach into having no confidence in him.

Holland is terrible at getting goalies, always has been. We beat Holland's Red Wings in 2006 really as much as anything because Osgood/Legace were complete sieves and Roloson was way better. If Osgood or Legace were even half decent in that series we probably lose.

Mike Smith never stole any games for us, and people complaining about Skinner... Go back and watch Mike smith highlights from the Flames/Avs series.

Chia + Holland for the last 8 years cumulatively. Imagine actually having competent management and the positive effects it could have on roster construction, cap management, drafting, developing, talent recognition, etc.

And before any Holland apologists get on my case, all he's done is spend money on UFA's and has made about 2 good trades (Kostin and Ekholm). You need more than that from your GM in the span of 4 years. His draft picks seem to be mostly duds as of now, it is early but the Oilers need talent on ELC to supplement their depth.

Mike Smith allowed 2 goals in Game 6 against the Kings then shut them out in a deciding Game 7..
Yes he did, I would argue that the game 7 we absolutely dominated had little to do with Mike smith.

But again, look at the next two series. How many times did Smith get yanked? He was average at best against Calgary and absolutely abysmal against Colorado.

Holland is better than Chiarelli but he's no where close to a top 10 GM and hasn't really been for a long time.

I think Dubas is honestly a better GM than him, Dubas would not have signed that Campbell contract nor would he have signed that Nurse deal.

Dubas' problem is Matthews/Marner disappear in the playoffs, not that he doesn't give them enough help to work with.

I would say that guy in Calgary is better too.

Kings are inept offensively though, even moreso the year before. This year they were an elite pp team, just didn't get talked about because ours was at 60%. Smith let in a goal from 200ft to tie the game, largely omitted because nuge managed to score in regulation. He was bad against cgy, markstrom was worse and then he was downright repungent against colorado losing the goalie battle to francouz..

pretty funny Dubas gets a pass for Matthews/Marner not producing but it's Hollands fault when Draisaitl doesn't produce

btw, Dubas signed Tavares to a ridiculous contract

Lets be honest, if McDavid + Drai had Tavares (over RNH) + Nylander, Reilly, etc. they probably would win the Cup this year. The Leafs had decent goals against (even Woll was solid in relief), their big two failed them horribly.

so was Campbell..
And yet the Leafs couldn't wait to ditch him. The Bolts heavily outplayed the Leafs for long stretches of their series but were surprisingly let down by Vasilevsky. If Campbell plays for the Leafs in round one they probably don't win the series.

We keep getting Leaf castoffs then act surprised when they suck.

ya Hyman really sucks

Hard to compare since Campbell never played a full game. Woll put up a .930 in game 5, can't really complain to much about that.
cause our dumbass coach was too stubborn to try something different and it costs them the series

The bottom line is we had the worst starter in the league for the regular season, and we had the worst starter in the playoffs.

Management has to have some ownership over the situation ever even getting to that point. No other contender had to put up with the shit in net that we did.

Holland has a long history of getting it wrong with his goaltenders too.

If You want to win Stanley Cup You have to be lucky or You have to have a GM who can gamble , and to take Ekholm over Karlsson is not to gamble.
