It's not about the record. It's the lack of effort and lack of execution. Most of these guys look like they have no idea what they're doing out there. I hope that changes when the regular season starts but the signs aren't good.
To be fair, when a team is out of synch they always look lazy. Because they’re a step behind and hesitant.

Anyhow, I just got sucked into the very debate I wanted to avoid during preseason, because I couldn’t resist the urge to tell y’all to calm down and step back from the ledge a bit.

This is EXACTLY why I’ve done nothing but post Patrick Bateman gifs in preseason threads. So I’m going back to doing that. Should have seen it coming.

Blais can't even score in games that don't matter. Also, there's no such thing as games that don't matter, they all count.

preseason games absolutely do not matter - yea they keep score but they do that in practice scrimmages too...he looked good on a line with reaves, was physical and playing with energy the other night...the kind of line we didn't have last year. the kind of line that lies at the core of the isles, or recent bruins teams have featured, the kings would ice in their runs, chicago always had, tampa had a form of - less size but brought the energy and physicality with goodrow coleman gourde

blais has a cup ring. he's got upside and can play a role we had a need for.

buch is gone. we got what we could - there wasn't a great market for him. we could not keep him and thats really all there is to it. i'm sure we'd all go back and dump kreider to have the space for him but we can't. keeping him now meant losing one of igor, fox, mika - not trade-offs we could accept. blais has a very good chance to be a perfect fit. if not, yea it sucks but that cap space is still significant. reality is buch was getting traded, that was the best we could get for him. time to move on...keep an open mind on blais and what he brings, find some optimism that kakko / laf will thrive in the top 6 roles they'll take on. hating blais because you don't like the trade that brought him here is just finding someone to be mad at while dwelling over something that can't be undone

Loki Dog, we are Ranger Fans. This stuff is our Catnip.

Stop caring so much. It’s the preseason.

Look, when we had range days in the military and had to run from behind cover to the next available cover under simulated fire, no one was breaking their ankles or trying to set the world 100M sprint record. The one time I ever was in a fire fight in the Middle East one of the guys in my unit literally sprinted for cover and slid to get behind cover so hard that he broke his leg. He didn’t get shot or injured because of the attackers. He broke his own leg.

Dumb story. The point is - whether WE like it or find it acceptable, or not - people don’t always take things as seriously or try as hard when they know it doesn’t count. And as much as you are saying they “need to” have a better preseason, the bottom line is that these games don’t count.

The Devils and Islanders seemed to take things seriously...

Lundkvist was the only Rangers defenseman in the game not on the ice for a goal against. That's a 0 rating in a 0-5 loss and a 0 rating in a 1-7 loss.

Not planning the parade or anything, but I think people are being unfair towards this kid, he's been fine.

If it was theoretically between him and Jones on the third pair honestly I'd still lean Lundkvist, I think he's going to be steadier and more reliable in that role than Jones. Jones is playing a kind of high risk game and for easing in on the third pair I think that just destabilizes the lineup a bit.
Just a thought

I only needed one prospect tourney game for lias Andersson

so true...was it that he had zero hockey iq or that he his skating looked like he took the ice on roller blades that did it for you? for me it was the skating but six of one half dozen of the other really

Has Lundkvist really been that bad? +/- 0 in two big losses and an assist on the only goal. I haven't watched much of the preaseason games.
He hasn’t been bad. He was very solid today making good smart passes all over the ice. Good positioning and all around steady game. Nothing flashy but subtle and effective. The rest of the d were terrible especially Miller and Schneider. Jones looked confident but was mostly ineffective and his line was on for many chances against. Schneider is definitely not ready.
Nils was very solid on pp as well.

Nils looked awful to me on the PP. He was way too focused on taking very low percentage long range shots rather than distributing the puck. He killed off like 20+ seconds on the 5 on 3 himself due to taking a pointless shot like that.

The fact that Panarin racked up 3 points and the rest of the team is playing like this is a bad sign, not a good sign imo. Panarin is the best winger in the game, if anybody's mailing it in in the preseason it should be him. Yet he's the only one playing like he gives a shit. Other guys are fighting for a spot and put forth an absolutely embarrassing effort. I don't think anyone who played in this monstrosity of a game should be wearing a C. We should wait until Laf is ready, or if we insist; give it to Panarin. I don't care if he said he didn't want it he was just being humble, he is the only player who gives a shit
Panarin deserves the C more than anyone else on this roster

I didn't realize he was talking about preseason. But that's a silly argument then because Buch has proven to be a good second line player most of his career and last year was a first liner. This isn't his first time scoring.

And they get a gold star, a pat on the back and 0 points in the standings for it. View attachment 467566

How many times have you seen that movie?

And my point is I don't think not giving a shit in preseason has 0 correlation with not giving a shit in the regular season, particularly when you're not a team that can afford to take off preseason. The Rangers have a new coach and aren't a lock for the playoffs. They have to be serious right away. Or at least not comically non-serious (is that a word?).

More times than I care to admit.
