He's worse than Glass for the simple reason that he plays "defense". His suckage costs us big time and actively leads to goals against, whereas Tanner Glass was just where offense went to die.

So you throw out the game completely? We had our #1 center playing this game, our #1 goalie playing this game, Kreider who's a top line guy for us, our #2 d-pairing. If we were any good we'd have these guys show something. Or if they worked as hard as Gallant makes it sound like they will. f***, this team is another mess of a franchise but unlike the Giants have been a laughing stock their entire history.

As you said, they all played the game, but no results. Where is the goal? Where is goal scorer? Where is defense?

We're not Tampa Bay. We can't afford to take preseason off. We need to build SOME chemistry. Completely different situation.

Tampa Bay wasn’t Tampa Bay BEFORE they won back to back cups either. What is the consequences of losing these preseason games? I keep hearing “we can’t afford” it, “we need” to be better in the preseason. Are we going to start with negative points in the standings as a penalty for a poor preseason? The preseason is literally not an indicator of anything.

Panarin is Panarin, he showed there are no doubts about that. Kakko looked great. Fox just won the Norris and he’s played one game, not worried. Lindgren is Lindgren. Laf, Chytil and Kravtsov look fine. Goodrow just won back to back Stanley Cups, not sure I expect him to be going 100 MPH in a preseason game. Mika scored. Jones looks good. Hunt looks good. Rooney is Rooney.

Trouba is drawing the same complaints he always draws. Kreider is drawing the same complaints he always draws. KAM looks rough and is drawing the same criticisms he drew in the second half. Who else that’s actually making the team is that concerning?

We worried about Geertsen, Tinordi, Brodzinski, McKegg, Huska? These are bullshit games that literally don’t count. Imagine you’re a 23-29 year old who makes 5-8M per year and you know the game is literally meaningless. And your spot on the team is not in jeopardy. You risking injury? You really going to empty the tank, 110%?

And should this team come out hot and win their first 3 games or something like that I will literally have the best laugh of the year reflecting on the reactions in this thread. And, honestly, I wouldn’t be anymore surprised if this team started 5-0 than I would be if they started 0-5. Because these games mean nothing.

Didn't Tampa Bay break or come close to breaking the record for points in a season the season before they won their cups? Either our players suck or they don't care, neither is a positive sign. If they didn't care because they win presidents' trophies and make deep playoffs runs every year, it's understandable. This team hasn't made the playoffs since like 2017 (the play in round was not the playoffs).

The Devils also have players for whom these games are meaningless.

It really isn’t a comparison. It’s illustrative of the fact that the preseason is meaningless. We’re talking about PRIOR to Tampa winning two consecutive Cups. In fact, we’re talking about a Tampa team whose most recent exploit was getting swept by Columbus in the first round. And then they show up to preseason and get shutout 4 times. It clearly didn’t mean anything.

I can google any team in any given year and it’s a 50/50 chance their preseason record didn’t have any correlation to their actual record.

The fact that Panarin racked up 3 points and the rest of the team is playing like this is a bad sign, not a good sign imo. Panarin is the best winger in the game, if anybody's mailing it in in the preseason it should be him. Yet he's the only one playing like he gives a shit. Other guys are fighting for a spot and put forth an absolutely embarrassing effort. I don't think anyone who played in this monstrosity of a game should be wearing a C. We should wait until Laf is ready, or if we insist; give it to Panarin. I don't care if he said he didn't want it he was just being humble, he is the only player who gives a shit

Wow, it's only preseason, but that's truly embarrassing. We couldn't handle the Devils speed whatsoever. And there was just no structure, no breakouts, no puck support, no ability to cover the man without the puck in the D zone.

The only D that looked half decent was Jones. He needs to be the D who makes it over Lundkvist. I'm a big fan of that kid but he is NOT ready yet. Send him down and let him learn the right way. Jones is really smart out there.

Barron Gauthier and I dunno at least looked like they were trying.

Paju is too darn small right now.

But the rest of the team was not good.

The thing I kept thinking was, if Zib, Kreids or Troubs were actually captain material, that effort would have looked a lot better.

Yes. And then they got swept in the first round by Columbus. You don’t think they had anything to prove? After disappointing literally everyone by getting swept in round 1, they showed up for preseason and got shutout 4 times and lost 5 of 6. Saying we’re not the same caliber team as Tampa Bay is not seeing the forest for the trees. The point is simply that these games mean nothing.

Look I'm not going to bash K'Andre. We need him to be a player. But it's hard not to see that he's been exposed a number of times and it's just pre-season. The issue is Nemeth and Tinordi are still worse.

I kinda feel like I want to see Trouba with Jones right now. Move K down in the lineup. Let him play against lesser competition right now.
