Finland has looked underwhelming in every outing I’ve watched. They’ve got a lot of NHL drafted guys with Heinola having had a good cup of coffee in the NHL, Lundell being considered a blue chip and some young guys with some hype. Surprised they aren’t looking a bit stronger here against Swiss.

I've said it for a while - IMO Lundell is not a guy that can carry a team by himself, he's more like a complementary piece.

Heinola has tools but is limited by hockey IQ.

Swiss played o.k, they are in it. I'm not noticing anybody particularly threatening on Finland other then Lundell and Lambert.

Good first period to watch.

Lambert sure is fun to watch, he can turn on a dime and is so shifty.

His skating has shades of McDavid and Barzal at similar ages as we discussed last game.

He’s a wonderful skater to watch, needs to add some strength on his feet but that should come as he gets older. He tends to get knocked off the puck a little easily, but again he’s only 16 and playing against guys way older than him.

Edit: 17 now apparently just had a birthday before the tournament started.

Reminds me little bit 2017! Finns in Relegation-Round with six 1st Round Picks in their squad.

Every year in every f***ing competition the Finnish teams sweat against the weaker countries and every year people go surprisedpikachuface.jpg

Except this year we don't really have the elite talent needed to bail us out, when the squad plays under their potential...

Yes, it matters to the extent that Mukhamadullin or Barron goes in the first and Niemela goes early third. Makes perfect sense to me. I mean for one guy to rise somebody else needs to fall. And there really aren't many disappointments in that 2020 first round. Or the 2nd round, for that matter.

Braden Schneider went in the first round due to simply being physically imposing, without much high end ability with the puck, IQ or skating ability. I don’t see any reason to pick him over Niemelä. That is just an example. There were plenty of risers in the top 2 rounds and Niemelä should have been one of them.

Perhaps, but i think it's better to wait for the tournament to be over to make claims about risers etc. He's been decent for sure.

I was a bit sceptical of having Lambert in the WJC lineup, but he's been great so far. One of Finland's best players.

Those line changes compared to game 1 made it even worse. They should finally put Knak on the Schläpfer line or at least put Hofer back with Schläpfer and Marchand. Like that, we have no line with consistent offensive zone time. Can't be in our best interest. Coaching could really sink us in this one...
